Do the Franks without effects/ 2 channels-vol-bass-treble have "bass boost" circuitry or are they all the same circuit either with or without the effects board. Is a Frank without effects voiced for guitar or would it be too bassy? What makes me ask is I noticed that in the 1966 literature section it says the C895 with 2 cabs has "bass boost" But that one has verb and trem. I have outboard effects and don't care for Frank reverb (to washed out and the reverse volume effect as you turn it up)The tremelo on them is awesome! But of the Franks I've had either one or the other or both don't work. That's why the basic head with no effects----kustomise

hey Kustomise....you know I had never noticed the "bass boost" on the literature..but then I've not every looked that close at the FRanks.. they were a tad before my time and I have always just been into the later plexi era...but I wanted to chime in to say that I do have a couple frank heads and factory stock..they do sound better than the later plexi models..my company's amp tech has done some mods to one of my SC150 2x10 rigs and it nails the fidelity of the older franks now..but that's not how they came from the factory...I have a very early frank head on top of a no port 2x15 11 pleat cab (no port..not just no chrome rings, but no cutouts in the baffle board)..so its not the best for bass...but for guitar it screams...very much like a vintage fender twin at volume..very clean, very full bodied..it does one thing well...loud....very pronounced....I'd stand it against anything fender clean out there for guitar... I also have a frank on top of an old hi freq cab that has the horns removed and in stead I've got a pair of recone CTS 10s in there...and in my home project studio...that amp is my favorite...it gets amazingly loud..but sound so good...again..I'm talking guitar...I also rely on my boss pedal board for all my fx..both wet and overdrive..so I just want my amps to be full body, bold and clean...my frank rigs (cascade) are too mint condition to take em out regularly..but I enjoy them daily in my studio and usually run through them for all my practice time.. I think you'll be pleased with a frank for guitar..but I'd really recommend findingold CTS guitar speakers...eminence would be the second choice..avoid the jensons..and I would trump em all for some JBLs..oh btw:..Weber's site is now offering a california ceramic in 10,12,15 designed to replicate the D series JBLs..even have the chrome cap option..very well priced.. I'll be trying some of those soon..my blue 4x10 SC is calling for a set of those...hey..if you get really stuck finding a clean frank rig...give me a call as your last resort.. I have that frank in black..its really in nice shape and is a true vintage era piece of kustom history.. Bud has seen it in person and told me about the cab ports..I'm not hot to sell anything..but I do want to see my kustom buds get into a rig of their own....

I've never noticed any Frank head that I've seen with any special "bass boost" circuitry. But, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I'd like to hear about it if any of you guys that have seen one with it.
All Kustom K200 amp heads were designed with a modular circuit system. This is true from the early Franks through the plexi-panel amps. They designed a basic power amp and then added pre-amps and effects to it depending upon the model. All of the Franks share the same power amp and the main 2-channel pre-amp board. Both channels are exactly the same. On reverb (PA) or reverb / vibrato (RV) heads, they add a separate FX board, that the signal from the left side pre-amp is sent through to add the effects. So if you play through the right channel of a PA or RV head, it's the same as either channel of a no FX head.

Its hard to tell from the pictures what the difference my be, I have a frank PA head.I would venture a guess that the non-effect bass and guitar head are the same just like the 200Bs with one dark channel and one brite. In that 66 picture I think they used a effect guitar head in the bass head photo. I think Bud needs to be consulted.

Thanks for responding guys! I found a black Frank with no effects in great condition like I was looking for as a result of my want-add on this site and for a good price within hours! Sent off the paypal payment and am waiting.......I have a 60's "Sound" brand 2x12 cab with 1984 8 ohm Eminence speakers for the 4ohm load required. It sounded awesome with the 745PA head I used to have, so it should be happening with the new acquisition. I'm going to be using a bigger box 70's Ross Distortion pedal I bought of ebay. (any feedback on those?)(I haven't recieved it yet) also an Art MR1 Reverb and VOO DOO Lab tremelo to round it out------kustomise

Another thing Frank related I noticed is that under Photos on the menu there's the red stove knob with matching 2x12 cab that looks like it has tremelo but no reverb! I thought it was either no effects, with reverb, or reverb and tremelo but not with tremelo alone. What gives? All kinds of surprises with closer inspection! Check it out! But mabe I'm the only one here who doesn't know about this----kustomise

first off..congrats on your latest acquisition...!
second...the more you look...the more surprised you'll find..kustom..as big as it was...had a fairly short life across several significant model designs..considering the rapid growth, the major model changes and the transistions caused by those changes and the new horizon of technology...you wind up with a lot of cool gear...course..Bud, being a force of ingenious nature constantly looking to make things kooler...only added to your adventure..so enjoy all the surprises...I've been at this for 35 years..and I'm still seeing things that I didn't know were out there...
