I noticed a difference between the reverb controls on the two K250 heads that I'm trying to decide between. The K250-2 has regular pot to for the reverb control and the K250-4 has a pull pot for increased reverb (or better control over the range of the dial). Both sound about the same when maxed out (the K250-4 pulled out to boost reverb).

Was this a difference between all of the -2 and -4 models or is it a variation from year to year that would have been on both models made at the same time? I haven't seen any mention of the pull boost for the reverb control in the literature.

I have 2 k250-4 amps and both do not have a pull pot in the reverb section, and the schematic for that part number 5068 circuit board does not show one, but they do have a tone control.
If yours has a pull pot then someone added along with a cap for a high end tone bypass network.

Steve:
Some of the metalfronts did have a pull pot on the reverb control. The schematic I have for PC5069 (FX with Selective Boost & Fuzz) shows it.

All it does is add a resistor in parallel to the inverting input ground reference resistor, which will increase the gain of the drive stage to the tank input.

In a way, it's like the dwell control on an outboard Fender Reverb unit.

Milo:
I don't know if this was a later addition to the circuitry or not, but the schematic that show it is dated 7-71. My copy of the schematic for the FX board with only reverb and trem/vib does not show the switch, and is dated 5-71.

Thanks for the info.

I've been on the fence about the K250-4 which is a head only, and a K250-2 with the matching 2x15 cabinet that are both for sale. I wasn't sure if the pull boost on the reverb was model specific or if it was a later or earlier addition. The -2 doesn't have it and the -4 does.

I've been trying to scrape the extra cash together to get the stack if I can but times are tight and amps are just for fun Sad

MILO! Amps are not just for fun......they feed the soul.....they are the nectar that sweetens our life....they are the sound that sooths the beast.....they are the stuff that makes the women crazy........as in get that shit out of the living room! That alone is worth the cost.

Grab the stack, you'll hate yourself later for not getting it.

If I can scrape together the extra cash for the stack, that's probably the only place it's going to fit in the house...the living room.

I don't think I can get it up the stairs with the other stuff Smile

When did Kustom amps begin to become STACKS? I see it here and on Ebay. Marshalls were 2 cabs with a amp head on top, a stack. One cabinet and an amp, a half stack. But Kustoms Fenders, Ampeg, Acoustic, and the rest were never refered to as a stack. Kustoms would be referred to as a piggy-back. Just grousing.

Thank you - I'm here all week. And I agree - I have fallen into the generic, Stack or 1/2 Stack. So from now on I promise Piggy Back for my Kustoms and 1/2 stacked for my wife!

I have a matched set of Kustom 2-15" Jensens + 1-15" Horn. Obviously they stand tall like all the 3-15's cab. And heavy. I tried to get a buddy of mine to help me stack one on top of each other standing up. (obviously, I wasn't serious.) I told him we'd need at least an 11' tall ceiling and a step ladder to get to the controls. Now THAT's a stack!

I guess I have to plead guilty to referring to the one that I'm looking at as a stack. I think somebody else on here was using the term and I followed suit, but I do refer to my Fenders as piggybacks.

I think I probably used "stack" because the Kustom speakers are one above the other instead of side by side, and also because I'm debating a head versus the complete package. I've got to go see how much they'll deal on the price today or tomorrow. They weren't too willing to move the last couple of times and were quoting how much cheaper they were than an Ebay auction that was way too high and had been there listed for months.

Take cash. Lay it on the counter in front of them. They lied when they said Cotton was king. Cash is king. Always has been.

Milo, are you located in Michigan? I know I've talked with someone from Michigan? I'm outside Grand Rapids, MI.

That's me, Don.
I'm trying to put together the cash to buy the matching K250-2 head and cabinet instead of just the K250-4 head. They kind of back-pedaled a bit on their price and I've just been trying to find out as much as possible in the mean time.

That would be great. A couple of friends and I always meet up at it so it's no problem from my end. I'll try to remember to email you when it gets closer if I don't hear from you first.

I normally have a booth at the show. I manufacture the Tremorbender brand B string benders. Maybe we've already met?
I missed the show last May, I was playing on the other side of the state and didn't feel like I was up to doing the show with no sleep if I drove straight from the gig to Detroit. If you haven't seen the benders, check out www.tremorbender.com it will give you a insight as to how mine mount without adding any holes or chopping up a guitar.

Yeah I know a shameless plug, but remember, we live in Michigan.
Anyone care to move the unemployment capital of America?

I did stop at the Tremorbender booth briefly during the last fall/winter show so we have at least seen each other.

If I wasn't looking for design job right now I wouldn't be worrying about $50-75 on the price of this Kustom I like. It's rough on this side of the state if you have anything to do with design or manufacturing.

I'll make sure to stop at the booth during the next show.
