I have another question on my Model K100 8, serial number #44732 combo amp. It has 4 10" speakers which are in need of a recone job. I've got an option to buy 4 fairly new Jensen speakers, all of them Fender Special Design (with the gold label) that came from a 90s Fender Blues DeVille. The problem is that they are 8 ohm speakers and I assume that 4 ohm is the optimal load for the Kustom. Does anyone have any comments on whether replacing the original speakers, which I'm not sure what they are, with the new 8 ohm jensens?? thanks for any help.
Dave

as an additional note I have read the post on C100's really wanting an 8 ohm load so now I'm wondering why I thought 4 ohms was best. I opened up the back of the cab and have found eminance speakers #67-6935, these speakers have a couple tears in the cones that I've repaired using superglue but feel if I really start using them they will probably fall apart.

Hi, Yes the 100s want a 8 ohm load minimum. If your inclined to get new speakers I would get yours reconed since the are original and will maintain the value of the amp, or at least hold on to them for future reconing. If your repair is working then you may want to just use them, only thing is did the cones your repaired fail from dry rot or where they ripped in some other way.If you have any other cones that need to be fixed by a small cheap speaker from raido shack(if you do not have one already) and cut out a section of its cone to bridge the ripped section on the speaker you are fixing and use your silicone glue. The original eminence drivers do not seem to blow out their voice coils any where near as easy as the CTS drivers that kustom used, and the amps that I have heard with the eminence drivers have a better midrange to them than the CTS speakers.

Sorry, so 4 16 ohm drivers wired in serise parallel will get you 8 ohms.

Sorry Steve, but 4 16's in series parallel would be 16 ohms. Either 2 16's in series to give 32 and then 2 sets in parallel would yield 16 ohms again or 2 16's in parallel to give 8 ohms and then 2 sets of those in series to give 16. Either way works.

It is not my intention to point out your mistakes. Sorry if you get that impression. I just remember that it takes 4 speakers to return to the original impedance value. Pretty soon you will find one of mine and then vengance will be yours. Laughing
