Hi, I'm new and my name's John. I just got this Kustom head and I'm a big fan already. I'm trying to figure a couple of things out. First, what series it is (not extremely important). Secondly I want to replace its two-prong power cable with a grounded one, and I was wondering if anyone here has done that.
I think I'm going to get an A/B pedal and set the two EQs for rhythm and lead. I'll mostly be using it for guitar through a Sovtek 2x12" although I like it for bass too so it may be my ""small gig" bass head.
The model # is C 595
The serial # is 12767
Thanks for your help!
Oh the light is actually red but the flash made it look yellow...
Hi, John,
Welcome to the site.
What you have is a Frankenstein amp which came before the K200.
Yours was made about June 1967 ...the K200A was made starting in late 1967.
It seems to be in very good condition.
To replace the two-prong power cable with a grounded one, search on this site for either of these postings: "Hum on a Kustom 150 Head"
"grounded plugs,A and B series amps"
For more info on your amp, just put in a search on this site for Frankenstein.

Hi, These early amps had no output stage protection circuit like in the latter amps, they only have that 5 amp fuse on the front.
These heads will output 60 watts RMS, so if your playing it loud with speakers that are on the edge with this wattage I would drop that fuse down to a 4 amp. That way if you blow a speaker, they most times short first before the voice coil opens, and the 4 amp fuse will stand a better chance of saving the amps output stage from damage!

I don't know what the cab I'm running through is rated. If I put a 4 amp fuse and the speakers don't blow, but I crank the head, am I just gonna blow the fuse? Obviously that's better than blowing the head. Thanks!
