Hi all You experts out there!

I'm wondering if running my bass into both channels of my 250-4 can hurt it in any way, or make it run significantly hotter or something?

I have just tried it, to see if I could blend the channels to create a subtle fuzz without loosing any bottom.
It worked tremendously well - very nice sound.

I just used an adapter for headphones, a 1x6,3 - 2x6,3, plugged into channel 1, plugged in the bass to one of the adapters outputs and put a short cord from the other adapter output into channel 2.
I noticed a small decrease in volume when I plugged in also channel 2, but I think that's just because the bass's output gets divided between the 2 circuits, right..?

I really liked the sound I got, and also like the idea of using only the amp's own effects, but I'd rather buy a pedal than risk damage... The decrease in volume can easily be fixed by turning it up a little more... Cool
Can I do any harm by doing this, or is it safe for the amp?

/Peter

Peter:
You will not damage anything but your ears!
Technically speaking, the amp should work fine doing this, but more volume (using either one channel or two) can cause the amp to run hotter and the speakers to distort more.
You can also use an A/B/Both box. This way you can use either channel separately or both combined with a footswitch.

Thanks for the info Bill!

I'm not worried about any increased volume since the band I'm using the amp in is not very loud.
I have each master at 9 o'clock and the bass vol at 50% - not very loud at all...

I've read somewhere that hurting ears is less likely with enjoyable sound, so what could be less hurtful than a Kustom with both nice round bottom and crispy fuzz at once... Cool
Seriously - the blend sounds great for golden oldies like Cream, Mountain and Free songs.

The A/B/Both box was a good idea - have to get me one of those.
I have an A/B box, but that won't give me the blend.

Thanks again!

On any amp that has 2 channels, but only one with reverb, running both channels feed by the same signal will create phase canceling due to the fact that the signal passing thru the reverb channel is going thru another gain stage(the reverb) and being inverted phase wise in realtion to the normal channel. This will not harm the amp but you will notice that at certain settings of tone and volume your total volume and tone you hear will be less than eitheir channel run by itself.

But I guess that's not an issue with the 250-4, since all effects but the fuzz is used by both channels.
The fuzz is only channel 2 though.

Correct, but on all frank heads, the 200 and 100 heads, other than the PA heads it is a issue.
