Welcome to the place. Yes the Commander and the Hustler are electronically the same.

Unlike the Challenger, neither amp has any chips that are impossible to replace. They both have PC5066 preamps, PC5068 effects and PC5033 Power amp boards.

What chip are you looking for? I can help you find a replacement or at least a work around to get your amp working again. It would be a shame to ruin a working amp just to fix your dead one.

The Commander, Hustler, and Sidewinder all shared the same circuit boards. Finding a used circuit board on Ebay, the boards for sale might have the same problem. I have a 504L ten legged IC3 that looks to be 1/4" dia. I also have the black IC eight pin chip.

I would have to know what part it is, but one part in there has not been made since 1972....I have 3-4 of them that I keep for my Challengers. As I never know if I will ever find any again. These amps either work great or they don't work and they are a pain in the butt. I have owned 5-6 Challengers and they were named that for a reason...they are a Challenge indeed! Forgot they are different than the Challenger!

I think it might be a different number because of control spacing. I don't have that schematic, but I know the SC150-7 and the SC150-8 used different board numbers, but were the same circuits, just difference in hole spacing for the controls. But as I've said many times, I'm not a tech.

I bought this challenger ''as is'' a few years ago and it did work but would break up . I thought it was just a speaker problem as I could tell they were shot . The tuck n roll and knobs are all in good condition so my 75.00 investment was a no brainer . Anyhow I will get the info off my tech. thanks

I'm confused are we talking the Commander or a Challenger? Your orignal post said Commander.

Very good question. The Challenger does have a hard to replace driver chip in the power amp.

I will be dropping off my commander chassis this friday . My tech Bill from ''electric city pickups'' will check it out and find the chip in question . I think I may just buy the hustler chassi and have it for parts in the future. The cab on my Commander is that nice . I will need some thoughts on replacement speakers . I play primarly 50s,country,rockabilly
using a gretsch 6120 . THANKS GUYS Jeffrey Lee Lewis

Jensen Mods is what pleat normally gets and they sound very nice and they are reasonable. They sound like the speakers of the period to me. you can't go wrong with them.
