I checked "S35677" with NTE and nothing showed up. However, "35677" shows up as the following:
Industry Number : 35677
NTE Device Number: NTE102A
T-PNP,GERMANIUM AF PREAMP,DRIVER,TO-1
I also checked 2SC409, but that shows this:
Industry Number : 2SC409
NTE Device Number: NTE163A
T-NPN,SI-HORIZ DEFL OUTPUT,TO-3
So I doubt it's a 2SC409, but may very well match the NTE102A transistor since it's a audio preamp driver. You can compare your transistor to the NTE info here:

What I would suggest you to do, is to look for another working transistor of the same number in another section of the amp. If there is one, use it to determine what type NPN or PNP and go from there.

I know it's 2 years after the last post, but I have the same transistor that appears shorted. This one is connected to the reverb tank's output (on a K250-4). According to the schematic I have, it's an NPN transistor, so if the NTE-102 is a PNP, then it is not a replacement. So if anyone now knows what this transistor really is, then I would appreciate hearing from you!

Hi,the transistor on the output side of the reverb in a k150 metal face and k250 is a NPN type, kustom part number 007-0007-00 which is a TO92 type like commom 2n3904, nte type NTE123AP.
The transistors original number was 2 diffferent forms(1)pte8004 or(2)se4000.
Hope this helps!

Hi,
Yes, you've been a tremendous help!!!!! The reverb not working is the only issue with the amp and it has frustrated me. I will get me hands on some of these transistors and see what happens.

Oh! while you are in there, if the power and polarity switches are still ok, then do this mod. These have a habit of breaking at the body from being pushed to hard, so with some cable ties go around each side of the switches braket to absorb the force of being pushed, this precaution is also the way I fixed mine if yours happen to be broke.Rplacement switches that will fit can not be found, the only way you can get them here is from another amp.Treat them gentle as they get quite brittle with age.

Hi,
Yes, the reverb tank is fine. I had checked resistances of both transducer coils and all was fine, plus I tried it in another Kustom and it worked fine. I get a strong signal out of the PCB jack that goes to the tank's input, but when injecting a signal into the "receive" jack on the PCB, the sound is barely audible and it's all distorted. Plus, both the collector and emitter of the "receive" side transistor measure around -0.62 volts. That gives me a good clue that the transistor is shorted from collector to emitter.
As for the switches, great idea!!! While I never had one fail in the many, many years of using a K250 (I care for my amps like they are a baby), I will do what you suggest anyhow. Can't be too safe!
