Hi It is a bass guitar speaker. This speaker is from the Jensen "Concert Vibranto Series". At this time (1968) Jensen was owned by The Muter Company in Chicago. 3.6 lb Alnico magnet 8 ohms 100 watts 2" voice coil

I had a pair of these and they were not a "bright" speaker for bass. So it might not make the best speaker for guitar. But try it! - you might like the sound. If it seems to lack treble response, try cranking the treble a little. Hey, speaking of "trying" things - has any one tried Hartke speakers in a Kustom? Someone told me he put a pair of 10" in his combo and they looked and sounded great.

That speaker could also be a 1958 model. Alot of Jensens alinco models hd gone by the wayside by 68 due to the cobolt and nickel becoming a military item. In vintage guitar player mag, their is a ad by a company who has a huge! stock of vintage speakers, and yours is worth 250 bucks. Since original replacement cones are like hens teeth to find, I would just hag on to the speaker or use it for bass with 50 watts or less. The voice coils on alot of these early speakers where attached with animal glue, and when heated up eoungh and with age, let go. And then you have a spekaer witha dropped voice coil and little output, and what output is their sounds like crap.

Do you recommend that I have it re-coned? I have talked to and heard that the Speaker Doctor in Charlotte is excellent---ET recommended! Anyways, the speaker has a tear in the cone, but amazingly, dosn't seem to be affecting the sound much---it sounds GOOD as is!

If the speaker does sound OK, then you can fix where its torn. But fixing it right! depends where its ripped. If its on the non- accordian part of the cone, and the sides of the rip can fold closed and match up good, then get some gel type bottle brush krazy glue, or at a hobbie shop get some slow setting super glue and repair the rip. If the rip is on the accordian surround part of the cone use a dab of black silicone sealer. If you need to span a rip use a piece of paper towel that you have colored with a black marker. If you have some eatra mpney buy a recone kit from a speaker reconer now, and hange on to it. The new jensen company only offers a recone kit for the original ceramic magnet 15"s not the alnicos. They probily run 50 bucks of so, but its worth it to have on hand should you pop yours down the road.

Well, I have a speaker re-coner in Charlotte (Speaker Doctor) offering to do the re-cone for $50......it has a tear near the rim, and the material is gone---about 2" square.....anyways, I put some clear package tape over the tear---helped just fine----speaker sounds very good! I hate to re-cone and lose the original voice coil......this will change the tone/sound if I replace the voice coil too right---???

Hi, the voice coil comes attached with the replacment cone. Many of these old speakers, when they start to dry rot, fall apart at one rate or another when they are used. When the accordain section, or rim as you call it gets weak enough, then gravity will cock the cone and the voice coil will start to rub. If not that then the speaker will start to fart out at a given volume level. I guess I would get it reconed, but I would make it a point to find out if the replacement cone is made from 3skp type cone paper like the original. Or that the new cone will come close to the original tone. The original thin cone paper gave a early and nice distortion when pushed, of course for bass then a replacement cone of thicker paper may be better for you.
