Kustom 2x15" cab disassembly [message #4268] Tue, 25 May 2004 17:22 Go to next message

Hi, I'm leaving in France and a friend of mine is looking for a Kustom cabinet with 2x 15 inches speakers (not easy to find here at a reasonable price). We might found one in a store in US but as my friend wants to replace original's speakers, I'm wondering if it wouldn't be easier to disassemble completely the cabinet for the shipment (in order to decrease price). If anyone of you already did this, thanks to answer. By the way if somebody knows a cheap delivery service that serves France, it would be helpfull as well. Merci

The speaker magnets alone weigh 56 ounces.

Hi Merci, I think it would be very difficult to dis-assemble the cabinet. Even if you did, the naugahyde would never look right. Finding a cheaper shipping method is a better idea. -Les

Thanks for your answers guys. I'm amazed that a speaker magnet doesn't exceed 1.6 Kg (56 oz) for a 38 cm (15 in). My Audax 24 cm (10 in) have an heavier one. I'll look for a cheapest way of delivering it here. Thanks again. Merci means Thanks.

Hello. This may sound strange, but I think the only way to get the whole cabinet there safe is to crate it. If it gets there with rips in the covering, whats the use? It may be cheaper to get the cabinet parts taken off( name plate, caster ,ports, jack plate, handles, grille cloth, screws, and all the tuck and roll covering, but not the back)Have all that shipped including the covered back and just make a new cabinet for it there.
