The Kustom 3x12 cabinet came with guitar speakers - but someone could have replaced them with bass speakers at some point.

You might want to measure the speaker cutout from the front of the cabinet. The cutout for 12 inch speakers is about 11 inches; the cutout for 15 inch speakers is about 14 inches.

Some of the 3x12s were loaded with the 12 inch CTS bass speakers from the factory.....I have two of them and they are fine for bass. Same speaker as in the 2x12 100 series bass amps by appearence but the ohms may be different. I have also seen the 12 inch Jensens in them for guitar...I have not seen Altecs or JBLs in them...but I would not be suprised if some were made. BC Cool

BC,
Thanks - I never knew that.
All the 3x12's I have seen had Jensen C12N's.

Actually my main gigging cabinet is a red 3x12. I have two Neo bass speakers in it for weight reduction (72 lbs!). (I play keyboards so all my cabs are bass cabs.)
I am just now converting it to passive radiator - and I am putting 4 inch JBL aluminum caps on all three speakers - so it will look like JBL's.

Yes, both my 3x12s have CTS plates on the speaker jacks. RED 3x12...you lucky dog! I LOVE RED!! Les, have you ever mixed speakers in your Kustom cabs to increase the range? I have combined CTS with Jensens in my 3x15 siren cabs and it really helped the bottom. BC Cool

Kustom75, you can tell if they are the CTS bass drivers by just looking at the voice coil cover in the center of each speaker.
The CTS drives will have a round circle in the middle of each voice coil cover with a thin black fiber glass mesh in it, this is a heat vent. If they are original jensen drivers that have not been reconed, they will not have this feature.
Either way a 3-12, or 3-15 cabinet will read about 5.3 ohms with a meter as it was loaded with 3 16 ohm drivers from Kustom.
The jensens can be used for bass, as they did come in some small 25 watt tube bass amps in the late 50s and mid 60s, but they blow rather easy in that use. If you are just recording they should hold up ok, but I do not know that I would chance it!
