Cool site, found it by accident but it makes me wonder about my amp. I bought it in the late '60's (I thought 1965 but it could of been 1967) before Kustom hit it big. I've never really seen another like it. It's silver Tuck-n-Roll however: -It doesn't have the bass ports. -It sets horizontal on ball casters and, -the control knobs are more of a "chicken head" style, without the pointer. Six on the left and three on the right side. The I.D. sticker on the back of the head is printed paper with hand written numbers. MODEL J495RV SERIAL NO. 2193 FINISH Silver This amp still works though it's noisy. Some of the Naugahyde picked up a redish color over the years and the handles are gone. The tuck -n- roll is outstanding and looks as good as when I got it. I found something like it on the website. The K-200 series. Any insite as to rarity? Date of manufacture? Is it in fact a K-200? I normally wouldn't bother someone with this stuff, but you guys are clearly enthusiasts. Thanks for your time. Siggy

Siggy, it appears that you do have a 1965/66 model 200 amp. If you click on the literature tab, then the 100/200/400 you will see a picture of your amp. I would guess that it is more towards the 65 era. In any event you have a nice example of the lay down 2x15 cabinet. I was just talking with a guy who has a charcoal cabinet like yours and he just ran across a lay down 2x12 cabinet. Yours may have had solid plastic handles and the knobs are before the the big black ones with the silver ring around the outside. Kustom in 67 offered the cabinets with hidden ports, Aluminum ports as a 20.00 option and the knobs were standardized to the ones we all know. The 67 models were the K200A and the control panel went to vertical and horizonal controls rather than the staggered controls. The power output of the 200 energizer was the same as the K200A and K200B model amps. 100 watts RMS into a 4 ohm total load. Hope this helps. Don

Thanks for the reply Don, Here's a little more info about the Kustom. I bought it new in 65? and had the 2 x 15 Jensens replaced with JBL D130's. Man did it kick. We were doing outside venues back then and in Upper Sandusky Ohio we backed Bobby Sherman at some event (County fair?). 20,000 people thru the gate that night. Nothing but screaming fans and everyone could hear my bass! Now where can one go to find some plastic replacement handles? Siggy

Ah,,, the good old days. I was privi to open for Alice Cooper in august of 1969 just outside of Grand Rapids, MI. The band I was working in ran two of the K400 heads and three of the K200 heads driving seven of the 3x15 kustom cabinets. A Kustom model one organ and a Rogers double bass drum kit. Alice was just hitting it big, and they were runnung the big Acoustic amps at the time but didn't have a PA system with them, so they used our Kustom. Oh well enough of strolling down memory lane. I do have a extra pair of kustom handles. They are the black insert metal strap type, not the full plastic early style that may have been on your cabinet. There has been a lot of discussion on the 2x15 cabinets relating to ports and no ports cabinets. Most agree the ported cabinets sound better for bass. I have the vertical style cabinet like yours, no ports and for guitar I think it gets a tighter sound for lead work. Lots of good info and reading on that subject. Have fun, and as ET says, play loud. Don

Hey Sig..welcome...and don't let the formal Pleat information style, nor the lack of fevered response from the other guys fool you..you have a really great piece of gear there a prime collector rig and the earliest of examples of Bud Ross handmade...hold tight to it..unless of course you want to sell it to me.. (sorry.. I didn't say that... I did not say that...) anyway..welcome to the greatest bunch of guys and gals in the music gear world... I've been so grateful for their friendship this past couple years and the information that's been gathered here on this site is not only incredible, but represents a real value to the heritage of R&R. Don has done a great job as always of getting you up to speed on info for your rig and I can't add anything more other that to agree..the 2x15 no port cab and those early heads are monster guitar rigs. Play Loud! ET
