Transistors for Kustom 200 A5 ?? [message #8557] Thu, 26 April 2007 09:52   BrianBartling Messages: 8 Registered: June 2006 Junior Member Hello, all I am looking for some NOS (737F) 2N4249 transistors for Kustom preamp channels. Does anyone know where I can find some of these without buying in bulk?? I only need like 5 of these at most. Everyone on this forum has been great, Thanks for any help!! Here's the story: I recently acquired a K 200 PA head that only had one working channel. The other three channels were very very weak, and the original tucknroll covering was long gone. I spent the past few months ( on and off, of course) working on making a replacement tucknroll cover from turquiose zodiac naugahyde and foam padding (there was a lot of sewing, cutting, measuring and stapling involved, haha..and i would never want to do it again) and i was able to fix the other three channels with some modern replacement transistors from NTE electronics. The end result is that this thing looks and sounds great.......but when i compare the channel thats all original to the ones with the new replacement transistors, the newly fixed channels are lacking a little bit. Theyre just not quite as complex and rich sounding, so I've come to the conclusion that the old original transistors just sound BETTER. No big surprise there, but now i have to find some new OLD transistors for it..... Report message to a moderator

Sometimes these replacement transistors will sub, but they do not put out the needed current drive to pump signal thru a tone control stack. If you do a search for surplus 2n4249 transistors yoy will come up with a whole list of supplyers. I would shoot to find RCAs or NEC brand, maybe even GE made them? Report message to a moderator
