I have a K100-1, (2 channel, no trem) both channels
work, and I get plenty of volume. the problem is the
notes decay almost immediately, there is no sustain.
its almost like there is a gate with a high threshold.
this happens with both channels.

I have a schematic, and I've fixed Kustoms before, I'm
not sure where to look. I have an o-scope and a singal
generator (since the sig. gen. is constant, I can't really
find where there is a problem using it... no gap in signal,
no change to decay, if that makes sense).

any ideas?

If it really is gating, I'd check the bias of the output stage. Probably start with the bias diode string.
