Kustoms on the move! [message #2680] Tue, 22 April 2003 14:06 Go to next message

going to be a busy Spring for my toys..right now they are all stuffed, and I mean stuffed, in my band trailer..there's about 8 pieces more in there than ever should be...no, I ain't given em to you!!...not to mention the organ!..you can feel that puppy is in the trailer when you pull it..anyway..my son closes on his first home this Thursday and he needs Pop's trailer to move the cheap way..he has a converted double garage that is to be his band room for his gang of young guns to practice and for his drum students..so thursday nite we inload all my gear into his house..so he can have the empty trailer to move..funny thing is that this will be the first time that all my gear will be in a room together other than the trailer..the PA of course comes and goes to jobs, but the organ, my SCs and some other special pieces have justbeen along for the ride and several have been added this past year since all were exiled to the driveway in favor of a dining room suite (I know...but I am a married man)...ten hopefully by early June the toys get moved to their new home.. I've gotta be on the prowl for some cheap paneling and insulation so I can quickly convert the garage into "My room"..dust off my Black Crowes and Joe Cocker and hook the CD player up to a trio of kustom 400 PA heads..no finer in-home stereo system can be found! Actually I do have that Mackie 1400 but it doesn't go "thump" when you turn it on...what's up with that?! just gimmee my kustom power! hey, ya'll I'm rambling cause I'm so close to closing on our home and I'm just excited..forgive me...but you're all important to me so I gotta share..please say a prayer for those who do, I'm so ready for this place..sides, I can't buy any more kustoms til I get into it...and believe me..it'll make a great kustom retreat camp...we can have techno training classes on how to repair the SCs, then break at the pool for some lunch, then repair classes on the K100s, then break to the pool table for some beers, then classes on daisy chaining triple 200 heads into 6x3x12 cabs and the effect that rig has on wildlife...then some comparison time as we each show off our own pedal board combinations with our favorite rig...then some go-cart races down the back road of the farm (yes JC, another round of brew), and then Saturday nite we can give a concert on the lawn.. I've got a couple hundred folks that said they'll come..specially since some guy from Credence is fronting the band (hey.. I can dream!)

Hey Bc...the hearse would be great...but I'm sure we can fit most everything in your Civic!! I did get my son started moving last night...more this weekend...but my gear is all in his house at the moment...not set up to display...but still...out of the trailer! now I should have to load it all just once more...back in to make the move to my place...holding my breath...it's getting close...! and hey Deb...hope your ol bod is feeling better...I am long overdue for a group photo of my kollection...better believe I'll be plastering pics to everyone if this place goes through...June 4th..still praying....hey btw...looking out for my Carolina buds...Keith Wilkes has a sweet little K100 4x10 in black that he's been talking about selling.. I have two (of course) so not to me...and our right Reverand David has some of the nicest little SC50s and I think a couple of em are actually K25Cs...would give you a good excuse to come to Charlotte and pic em up..and stay with ET for the weekend!!!

This old body is healing, slowly but surely. I actually had my harley out Sunday. Drove it to church and then to the funeral home for my sister's husband's funeral showing. After that, I came home and fired up my k50 and played until I couldn't play no more. It sure was a healing experience. Keep us posted on the home deal.

THREE 400 PA HEADS!??! You sure know how to party haha. Out of curiosity, how do you chain them together? the line out into an input on the next head? I have two Kustom heads and i'd like to chain them together so i can use four cabs at once for "special effects" Very Happy

Wow did you guys pull up an old post...good to know folks are prowling around out there on our forum...I had forgotten I wrote that one...in anser to your question...the 400s work like this...
I have a pair of 3x15 siren cabs and a pair of 2x15 bass cabs.
The bass cabs are loaded with sub drivers (Eminence) and I use an electronic crossover in the rack.
Each of the 2x15 cabs gets its own 400 head...now since the time I wrote that, Don educated me on how the 400s work and I am going to rewire the 2x15 cabs so that I can hit each of the speakers seperately...that way I can plug both sides of a 400 head into one cab and double my power hit.
The 3rd 400 powers the pair of 3x15 sirens which i use as mains with a nice multi band eq in front to scoop out those mids...the siren horns have had new drivers loaded on them and are not as harsh..When I use this for PA on stage I do actually run mackie power amps and will soon be upgrading to some QSC for mains and Crown for bass...but around the house..just for grins...yeah.. I still was using the kustoms and they really rock! all my babies are relegated to the warehouse with the rest of my backline gear...business has grown so much that there really isn't play room in there and my kustoms line one and ahalf walls, 2 deep but there's a ton of gear blocking that glorious view...I swear if it isn't raining this weekend I'm going to pull em all out and get some long overdue group shots...later...ET
