im trying to get the specs on a k250 1 head i picked up. i need to find the type of bulb used in the polarity switch. also for some other specs. any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello.Both the power and pol SWT take the same bulbs, I have got them from radio shack in packs of 2.I can not recall the number right now, but if you look back thru post here it has been gone over many times. Be very easy on those switches, the plastic portion that holds them to their bracket breaks with little pressure when you go to put the lens cover back on. I find it helps to remove and install the bulbs with a piece of automotive vacume hose or a needle nose plyer with a good amount of tape around the tip so you can grasp the bulb. Get a bunch of them from the shack, these bulbs are not to popular any more. Let me know if you can not find the post with the part number.

Hi!

The bulb in my POL switch is also dead but I never went into the trouble of opening the amp to get the Part Number... Thank's for the info. Now that I know what to get I'll probably fix it... And I'll probably end up replacing most of the caps that are almost 40 years old now... But thank's for the info, lots of valuable material here!

Welcome to the place! There is a lot of great information here, free for the reading.

If you do decide to replace the switch lamps, search the threads for one where we all discussed how to take the switches apart and how to remove and replace the bulbs.

I just open my K250 while my girlfriend is watching the hockey game.
I got the defective bulb out and I'll get new ones this week.

My top preamp is PC5067 rev 1 (or maybe rev I???)
My bottom preamp is PC5066 Rev2
My power amp is 009-5065-00

Any chance I could get schematics for these?

My plan was to replace electolytic capacitors but I'm not shure what they look like!!! I've been working in electronics for the last 15 years but this baby is a bit older than that!

Also I saw a post giving instructions to change 4 parts to get more output... But no silkcreen on PCB.. So where is R1??

If anyone could help, this would be very appreciated.

The electrolitic filters are the two big cans mounted on the floor of the amp with the two connections on the top, these filters also have a small round indentation on the top. If that is pushed up ( dimpled) then they need to be replaced, if not then you are ok!
Those are the three standard boards for the amp, and kustom in those years never labled the boards for componets which makes repairs fun. Tell me what the problem is with the amp and I can email you the needed schmatic, although mose times these amps had them gluded to the inside lid of the amp.

The two big caps are looking good. I asked about the electro caps because I was expecting to see more.

I don't have a major problem with my amp. Only a couple of glitchs that occurs when it heats up.

Since I'll be playing in my amp, I'll also replace the bulb inside the polarity switch. (Thanks to a previous post from you, I was able to get the Part Number and found that my local electronic store have them in stock!)

I'm asking for the shematic because I like to see how the coulping is done. When I'm not playing bass on it, I would like to connect the sub output of my home-theater to the amp. By measuring the AC voltage between the Kustom and the Home-Theater amp, I was able to set the polarity switch correctly. Still I have a coupe of REALLY LOUD 'pops' whenever the track change on the DVD. Before I go in the trouble of making a sharp low-pass filter, I would like to know my amp a little bit more.

I was able to find the schematic and layout for the power-amp section. Only missing the two preamps.

If you could help, it would really be appreciated!

The sub woffer output of your suround sound is a very hot signal that the amps preamp section is not going to like too much, you should at least be using the #2 input(lower gain) of which ever channel you are pumping that signal into, but still it really needs to be padded down.
If you like I can tell tell you how to rewire the amp and use a swtiching 1 type 1/4" jack to reaplce the amps current module input jack so you can just use the amps driver and output satge and not chance blowing out one of the preamp channels.

Hello Steve,

The input of the power amp is sensitive enough to be driven directly from the surround?

What about grouding?
The GND of my surround is connected to Earth GND. Should I ground my Kustom also or this would make a GND loop and cause more problem?

You seem to know a lot about my amp!
Your help is welcome!

Do you suggest any "Maintenance" (like changing old dried cap) while I'll be playing in it?

I check on the inside cover but no schematics Sad
