Greetings,

I just purchased a wonderful PA system model 600-5 which has set for twenty years. I would like any advise on startup. Also, I only have one original speaker cord. This is a large system with four super cabinets. They say JBL on the back. I think they are top of the line, right? Matching covers plus one for the amp with chrome stand. Can anyone describe the best way to get this system going without blowing something up. The speaker output says one four ohm or two eight ohm inputs. There are two of these sections. So four speaker cabinets going directly into each 1/4 input. Also, is there a way of getting a book on this system. It is blue sparkle and we are loving the size of the cabinets. Any help would be great. Thanks, Doc kriss

Well - JBL Cabs would be top of the line. Configuration of the cabs would affect the price {3x15, 2x15 etc.} - cords are nice for collectors - But newer cords are better for function. Footswitch? Obviously condition sounds great as does the stand. Pictures? Can you post a link?

Congrat's on a great PA system, and to find one with covers and the stand is very rare. Most stands have long been lost. If the cabinets say JBL on the back and speakers are original, you have the 605 model PA. It has two amplifiers in the head. So you will need at least two speaker cables, one from each amp's paired speaker out to at least two of the four cabinets. You can click on the literature tab and go to the other T&R and click on PA Systems and that will bring you to the 71/72 Catalog of PA's. Yours is towards the bottom and you can click on the photo to enlarge it. Kustom didn't offer much in the way of an owners manual and you can get a lot of infomation on operation from the PA pages. One thing I would suggest if you have time and a power screwdriver is to remove the backs and make sure that the speakers are what the tag states and it's always fun to find items that have been dropped into the cabinet through the port holes. I seen everything from broken beer bottles, toys, and even a donation check to a church that was dated 20 years in the past from the time the cabinet was opened.

I agree with JC, photo's of your find would be great to see.
I think what JC was refering to is the replacement of the original power cord. We all change them out to a newer 3 Pin grounded power cord. You can get a 12 to 18 ft. applaince cord for under 10.00. Wire the new cable just as the original, white the where the original white is connected and the same for the black wire. The green wire connects to any chassis ground. Makes the amplifier much safer and the shock hazard won't be an issue.
