Nashville - We did it !! [message #208] Mon, 11 December 2000 09:55 Go to next message

Well..it happened..and boy what a great time!...realizing that now all heads matched all cabs...my daughter counted about 110 units...boy the looks on the faces of the dealers as one van after another kept pulling into the show..and dozens of kustoms came pouring out the back....we had the entire back wall of show lined up and 3 deep..it was great to see so many at one time...and some that I didnt know existed...I got to hear some serious pickers and enjoyed checking out the different tones that each coaxed from their rigs..and every tone was truly awesome...and speaking of awesome..he was...Bud joined us in Saturday as promised and stood the day eagerly answering every imaginable question...opening amps up and poking around inside..talking about designs and the history behind the different models...it was so cool to have him identify different rigs based on where the company was located at the time....basement/garage...to grocery store...to the plant...and of course there is JC's little red head that was so old and unique that Bud took it home with him!!...he wanted to effect some repairs!..talk about a life time warranty...JC of course will be impossible to live with for a while...ya'll be patient.....door prizes generously donated by our attendees included Jim B.'s kustom klocks (really cool.. I want one)..a new kustom amp from JC...a neat little naughy kat T-shirt also from JC...a Naughy Kat itself made the show and before going as a door prize...it was used as a welcome sign for Bud at the airport...it was soo classic to see his face when he came off the plane and looked over and saw my daughter holding the kat up so he could spot us...the look on his face was just perfect...Terry Edwards saw to it that a real orginal Kustom Kat showed up and his banner looked great up along the wall... Autographs all around from the top of amp heads to the bottom of kat butts.... Bud shared his stories all day long as we poked through the rigs...and the stories of his incredible life unfolded over dinner and later as we closed down the bar...we are all so grateful for him sharing with us...gratitude to each one that helped with the cost of the event, and contributed the door prizes, and to those that traveled great distances whether by plane or to drive their rigs in ... I thought my 8 hours was a run til I was humbled by the distance that others told me they had driven... Olenick all the way from PA..and I think Don is probably still driving to get home!.. I got to hear so many great players as we jammed on the gear..and really enjoyed hearing the different approaches to tone...the kustoms sounded so great...I gotta go practice...thank you all so much for making not only my mid life crisis complete..but for fullfilling a life long dream...ET!

To paraphrase some old advertising.."You meet the nicest people playing a Kustom"! It was a real pleasure meeting all. And a genuine privelege jamming with you guys. I was truly impressed and humbled by the guitar skills of ET, Terry Fox, and Don T., with BC in the pocket with the bass holding us all together. I wish I could jam all night with you guys! And talk about making an IMPACT at the show! When I arrived, the collection was yet incomplete, but it was still a treat for the eyes as I surveyed the back wall before unloading my modest assortment. And more to come on Saturday morning! And the socializing! I came to look forward to JC ordering a beer no matter what kind of restarant or time of day. Plus, I got to close down the bar at the Holiday Inn 2 nights in a row, while conversing and hob-nobbing with my Kustom brothers & sisters, along with the MAN himself, Bud Ross. Woo hoo!. An event that I will most fondly recall in my mind for some time to come! Now, I'm looking forward to some more pics. I really had a blast!

Just trying to ad my thoughts on the event, Bud's stories, the jam on saturday was the best. I still don't know why we all didn't get a recording contract. Like kustom, I guess we're just ahead of the times One of the highlights I thought was kool was watching a young kid buy Terry's 410 combo. The amp has got to be almost three times as old as the kid buying it, all down the line of fenders and marshall's he chose Terrys kustom. For those that had to leave early, JC and I fired up the 118 folded horn 250 rig I brought, and rattled the building. You could hear some acoustic guitars resonate from the sound. Don't let JC fool you guys, I heard him thump some pretty kool stuff on his bass, and it wasn't Louie Louie. Don

ET, I agree a special tribute page is going to be required to commemorate the week-end. My son will be home from college for the holidays; little does he know what I have in store for him (supervising the old man on web updates most likely). Will let everyone know as the updates get added. Dan
