Thanks to all Forum members for your dedication to Kustom. I've found a very clean, '60s 795 PA system at a music store. For professional gigging, do you recommend switching the 2-prong power cord to 3 (with ground)? Is using Hi-Z mics a necessity? Can you describe plusses and minuses of this 40-year-old sound in light of what small audiences expect to hear from small groups today? This PA would be used for VOCALS only...
Please advise other ways to use vintage Kustom PAs to their fullest.
Many thanks,

The 795 PA is the same PA I bought in 1969. That is a 4x12 PA but it seems not to be able to keep up with an over-zealous group. I would recommend using small mixer with low-Z inouts and then line in to the head. The output is only 100 watts and it tends to get lost. Another possibilty is to use a powered head with about 400 watts of power. The speakers are not rated too high but if each can handle only 50 watts on peaks the amp won't be too large for it. I routinely push speakers 2 to 4 times their rated power and for midrange use, vocals, I think that would be good match. Another possiblity would be to use Hi-Z mikes and then put the output through a larger power amp. You might find the amp a little peaky at certain frequencies. You definitely need feedback control. Good luck.
