hey guys, ok I bought a 2x15 over the weekend, I sold my 3x15 a couple months ago. the cabinet has Altec speakers 421-8H Series II. Both 8 ohm speakers, they look the same, one serial # reads '12640'. Can anyone tell me if these are decent speakers, they're not original right? They do have silver centers.
here's a picture of the back:

Also, this 2x15 compared to my 3x15 is built like a tank. It has metal ports and emblem, rather than plastic, and also has metal plates on the bottom where the wheels mount on. Its very heavy. Does this mean mine was built earlier than the plastic port/emblem model?
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks! -Kevin

The 67/68 catalog on this site shows some of amps with aluminum ports for a 20.00 upcharge. It also shows the Altec speaker toward the back of the catalog below the kustom guitar. It is an Altec even though it has a kustom label, so I would say your speakers are not original to the cabinet. Sometime during the 68/69 time frame Kustom installed the white frame black magnet Altec speakers. They also learned very quickly to use a Kustom logo paint stamp on the frame of Altec and JBL speakers. Seems there were dealers who were sending blown ALtec and JBL's to kustom for replacements and the blown speakers were actually taken out of Fender and other brand amps. So you may or may not have the Kustom paint stamp on the frame.
