hi there, I'm new here. what I'm reading is confusing me. I have a K200A-5 Bass head. serial number 20075.
Everything on here is saying that model number is a PA head.
My old bandmate still has a Kustom PA, complete. I've had this bass head since it was new, so no one has changed model plates, or anything like that. I came here, looking to find a schematic, and see if anyone knew where to get filter caps. the 4500 mfd 50 volt ones, but this model number thing has me confused, as now i don't even know what to tell you about my head, so that you know which one it is. Black plexi, black rolled and pleated. two channels, volume, bass, treble, bright switch, low and high inputs on each channel. thanks, in advance.
Buster

Gotta have pics to be able to help, have to see it to know for sure what you are talking about. After knowing exactly what you have then maybe we can get you a schematic.
From the serial number I know for sure it is a K200A head that was built in Jan. 1968

From your description you have a K200-1 head. To determine the series, The "A" series would have By Ross below the input jacks. The "B" series added the )))200((( below the Kustom logo on the face of the amp. Regardless of the tag, you do not have the PA head. The PA head would be a four channel, reverb control each channel. Is you tag a riveted metal tag or the foil sticker tag?
As far as the filter caps, I have a pair of extra's taken out of a kustom lll monitor amp from the 80's.

TO attach pics you are going to have to store them online like photobucket or similar account and then use the link from the pic that begins and ends with [img*] and paste those links into your post here.

If your tag is riveted, its original, and its very likly that during the amps birth at the Kustom factory that the basic chassis was pulled from the PA production line before the circuits where stuffed in and brought over to the standard head production area where a chassis was needed to get a number of amps out the door first due to dealers needs.
I just hope that when you paid for the head way back when that you did not get stuck paying for the more expensive PA head!

I have the schematic, so if you PM me with your mailing adress I will get you out a copy, I will also give you a part number and supply house for new main filters.
These amps curcuits have alot of much smaller electroytic caps that should get changed out also.
In light of this its a goos thing you have the non-effects head, as the other 200A models have stacked circuit boards and working on those to change out the smaller caps is a major pain in Butt!!

The up rated main filter caps you need can be had from Mouser electronics supply, part number 75-6DY103F100CB2A, the are made by Sprague.
For added tone improvemnt you can do this mod while you are at and from Antique electronics supply, part number C-FSD22-630 ( 2 each) and part number C-FSD01-1000 (2 EACH)
These are a .22 uf cap and a .01 uf cap.
You will put one each in parallel and then place that combo across each new mail filter.
To make things easy you can pick up 4 blue type wire rings from radio shack, or a auto supply store, just make sure the size ring you get will allow the 10/32" wire hold down screw for the top of the filters to pass thru.
There is two ways to do this ring thing. One is to solder the two small caps at the ends so that you can then crimp them firm in the ring.
The other way is to use a single edge razor to cut off the blue plastic insulation, and then you can just solder them up.
If the small caps have any polarity markings on them, be sure that the - end goes to the common strap connection point(middle) of the two filter. If no marking is on them then make sure that as you read the lettering on them( left to right) that the right side end of the cap goes to the common point.
NOTE that you may need 4 longer 10/32" machine screws due to the added height of the stacked wire lugs on top the main filters.
The cost of these 4 small caps is less than 6 bucks and worth far more in tone improvment!
So, if I've got it straight, place them across the two terminals of the large filter caps, in essence, in parallel? you said "mail", but I'm sure that you meant "main". darn keyboards. haha
thanks, now, if I can just get a schematic, I'll be in business.
