New to the K-Line, and have a friend that has a black Tuck&Roll bass amp. I believe it is a 200 model, looks like the head in the J.Jamerson Motown book. What is the going price on one?????? Thanks, James P.

The price will depend on the cosmetic condition as well as the amp condition. Is it just the head ...or is a cabinet included? If there is a cabinet, the speaker type and configuration can effect the price. Does the cabinet have the original casters and handles? Are the covers included? Black Kustoms usually trade lower than the Kolors......but a mint black can change that! Sorry I can not be more specific...but there are many variables. More information please! BC!

Head only, no cab. BASSIC black. Pretty clean. Figured I would offer $50? Got a blond Fender single 15" spkr cab to pump it through. Sorry 'bout posting ID. New to board. Jamie D. in NC

Hey Jamie!I believe you are the guy I sent an Acoustic 150 schematic to last year. A clean black K200B-1 head should be worth 150 and up to a Kustom guy. They usually hit that mark on ebay. Tube guys would value it less. Jimm Bennett says the black ones don't sound as good!.....but ET will argue that point! If you can get it for 50 you will have no problem finding it a home! Now find a pair black 2x15 cabinets and you will be at a 4 ohm load where the 200 sounds best! BC

Although it has two parallel speaker jacks suggesting the use of two 8 Ohm cabinets (i.e. a 4 Ohm load), I have been told the K200B series performs better with an 8 Ohm load. The same source also stated that the 250 Watt series prefers a 4 Ohm load, although it only has a single speaker output jack. I was considering installing new Eminence bass speakers (rated at 300 WRMS, 8 Ohms)in my 3x15" cabinet. Wired in parallel they would yield a 5.3 Ohm impedance. Sound OK?

In doing my math, you are going to have to use three 16ohm speakers wired in parallel to achieve a 5.33ohm load to the head. Three 8ohm speakers wired in parallel would work out to be 2.66 ohms. Two 8ohms and a 16ohm all wired in parallel would result in a 3.2 ohm. Two 8ohm wired in series would give you 16ohms and then wire a 16ohm in parallel with the two 8's in series you would have a 8 ohm total load. The problem with this is the the 8ohm speakers are taking 75% of the power and the 16ohm is using the other 25% reguardless of a amps power rating. I wouldn't recomend using three 8 ohm speakers wired in parallel using a K200 head. The 150/250 series wants a 2to4 ohm total load to the head. Kustom used 16 ohm speakers in most all their cabinets. Hope this helps. Don

Actually, the 150 series says "6-8 ohms", and the 250 series says "3-4 ohms", right on the circular plate that surrounds the speaker output jack.

Oh, and my 250 cab (with a power module in it) meters at a 4 ohm load. It has 2 original CTS 15" 8 ohm bass speakers in it.

I agree with Deb on the 150 series amps. I forgot kustom used the same power amp board in the guitar and the PA heads. The 6 to 8 ohm was to easier match the columns and the guitar/bass cabinets. Age can make the mind a bit foggy. The 250 heads and the power module cabinets all used the same power amp board. The 600 series pa heads used two of the power amp boards that were used in the 250 series amps, and the 600 pa head had four speaker jack outs, two on each end of the head and were labeled 4 ohm total. That gave the owner the option of using four columns total. Thanks Deb for jogging the grey matter. pleat

Everybody has an opinion....here is mine. I love the sound of a K200B with twin 8 ohm cabinets for bass......my second choice would be a 200B on top of a 3x15 rig.....but there is also great tone coming from twin CTS 2x12 cabinets for a smaller easier to move rig. The 200B on an 8 ohm load sounds a little "tight" and restricted after you have heard the warmth of the 4 ohm load....but you can not use twin or large cabinets everywhere. So.....I am a 4 ohm guy when the room allows...and a proud 8 ohm player the rest of the time! I do not have much experience with the 250 series....but Roy has a 500 rig that is one of the best sounding amps I have played...and it doesn't even sparkle! BC!

I agree with Brad, the 4 ohm load brings out the "nuances" of the 200B-1 amps. And, I think that what makes the 500 rigs so awesome is the fact that those cabs (with CTS) are 4 ohms. With the head cranking through a 4 ohm cab, and the power module thumping through the 4 ohm module cab..................HEAVEN!!!!!!!

I don't know Roy! I own a black 250-1 head and a blue 250-1 head, and playing through the same cabinet, the BLUE one has more thump. It is very noticeable. The only difference, other than color, is that the black one is a 1972 and the blue one is a 1971. Has anyone else did this side-by-side comparison of blacks and sparkles? If so, let's hear a vote! What rules--BLACK or SPARKLES?

trouble maker...ok here goes...blue 4x10, black 4x10 sounds better..its really the speakers...but just the same... silver wide panel, black wide panel 595 sounds way better...although I also have a cascade 595 that is killer but has a different tone too. I have a 200 bass head that was in a charcoal head..its now in a black head and gosh...seems to sound about the same? being serious for a sec...its interesting as I run through my 20 or so rigs that there is significant differences in the tones..given that these amps are basically the same design, its surprising how distinct each can be, some have a lot more low end that is in the amp, I"m talking about running them into the same speaker cab... and some have a ton of high..some shimmer more , my cascade makes me continually look to see if there aren't tubes in there somewhere..its just that glassy and bold...my black 595 thru 2x15 no port cab is dead on to the boldest black face twin verb that I've ever played..its a scarey amp that makes my wife hollar from the kitchen to turn down...its a monster guitar amp. The old Germ trans definetly have the better tone, but trusting them to a gig is harder than the 69 models. Sionce I'm pedal pushing my rigs anyway, I keep a boss parametric eq pedal in line. This lets me quickly adjust for more presence, bass, mid scoop, or treble so I can get the best out of which ever rig is with me.And thats the real beauty is having virtually every size and config of amp. I tease, but would love to have sparkle gear...just seemed like thru the years, somebody always has more money than me so I loose out (all together now...aaahhhh...thanks..) so the black was available, and I acquired a definite taste...also found that I could get away with using the black on more stages than the color..trends will come and go, the black is kool...and cool endures...love ya'll..gotta go fishin on my mid life crisis...have a great holiday weekend..and play loud..ET!
