Boys and Girls - I hate to mention this again - But it is already March - If we are planning to do the "Nashville" thing again - We had better start thinking of a time and a place - My summer Schedule is starting to fill as I imagine all of yours is too! August 19th Weekend and the week of September 10th thru the 17th are already spoken for this year for me! I would hate to miss one this year - But the options for me are getting smaller! What's up gang? Jc

I am ready! Let's get some ideas here! I am only 2.5 hours from Nashville so I am more than willing to travel this time. Looking for opinions! BC!

I have to agree with all of you, time is getting short already. Nashville is about 10 hours for me, and was thinking maybe Toledo, Cinci, or maybe Chicago for a meeting place. If we head west, I will just fly in. I am working with two different bands now, so the sooner we can pick a date and spot, I can book around that weekend. Is it important that we do it in conjuntion with a guitar show, or just pick a place where we can jam all day and night. Maybe we should just all show up at jimm's house, I never have played through a red. Don

Don – everyone is more than welcome to come to Portland. You can stay at my place - will the bathtub be OK for you? Or you can take shifts sleeping in my car! The only problem with Portland is that our one and only guitar show per year is in May, and I doubt we could put much together by then. So if you really want to come to Oregon, we would probably not have a show to meet at. However - If it's red you want, I will happily play host in Portland at an alternate location, or drive my gear as far away as Seattle - they have a few shows in the summer. Beautiful area - great beer and most all the roads will be newly paved thanks to last week's quake. Just don’t count on ANY other Kustoms besides mine being there – I am the only guy around here that has wised up. MINE ALL MINE!!! ARRR!! GET AWAY FROM ME GOLD!!! ARRR!!! Seriously - I will go anywhere you guys want to go. I have very little free time for a long road trip this summer, so if it is very far away from home I will fly in again. But that is quite all right by me! You know… we’re so spread out (CA, KY, MI, TX, IL, PA, OR, ETC… ) maybe instead of one BIG show that we all try to bring gear to, we can pick a ‘host collection’ to visit every year? just an idea. jimm

JC, great job on doing your homework. Indi. Would work with me. That time of year we wouldn't be fighting freezing rain and snow storms. It is a few hours longer for ET, but is closer for a lot of us. I could bring all I can get in my trailer. Maybe Tom, Randy and Deb could make it also. Have we given any thought to contacting Bud again. He was the highlight of our last show, and would he have that weekend open to join us. I can leave that weekend open if we get enough interest. Don

Indy would be fine with me...and Foxy is always on ready......but lets hear from our western contingent. I know OCT may be bad for Roy....but he is close to indy so that may help. That might be a good location for Hal and Brando. Where is ET when you need him!!!! BC!

where is ET...in freakin China that's where !! and I'm way ready to get home..another week and a half though...in the mean time boys..you know to count me in whereever it is.. I did get word from my son last night though that it looks like wedding bells will be ringing in September so while no date is set yet...I'll have to shy away from that month..or better yet..ya'll bring it here to charlotte and we can be the wedding band..oh yeah... I like it! ..listen..on the Bud deal..and he may be looking forward to a return visit..we'll simply have to ask...he has urged me..and I you...to consider asking Carolyn, his first wife, to participate...she certainly had her hand on the kustom label...and has plenty of her own stories to tell.. I have her phone number and will call when I get back home and can then pass things back off to BC whom I think has picked up the gauntlet on this year?...as for me.. I'll drive up to a full day to get my gear to a meet...and will fly other than that..but ultimately would love to see the folks that couldn't show off last year, get their chance this year...I know my life is more complete having seen the LA kustom collection at Terry's house...and I know how much it meant for me to show my gear so I would want everyone to have that feeling...on a diff topic..stopped by a couple music stores in Oz...kustom never made it down here in distribution..one dealer told me he has seen a rare few over the years if a musician brought one over with him and left it..but thats been it...have to check out china now...! ya'll play loud....ET!

As the other west coastie I thought I would let you know how good we had it in Nashville. I have tried several times to display my kollection at the LA guitar shows but was never met with any enthusiasm from the promoters. I was treated like any other dealer and would therefore have to ante up as such. No matter that I had no intentions on selling although buying was possible if it was a Kustom. Also it wasn't like I was looking for a bunch of freebies. I was always willing to pay the booth prices but it seemed that the show folks wanted more and it just never worked out. My hats off to Jim Reynolds for opening up the Nashville show to us. I don't think anybody ( dealers or show goer's ) was disappointed. I am willing to drive my kollection quite a ways to show it off. Maybe Jimm and I drive ours to meet in the middle out here and you all fly there. ( between the 2 of us we could provide quite a show ) Like Jc sez, time is running short. I've got an idea brewing but I need to research a bit more before I post that. Will let you know. Meantime, if any of you are passing thru LA and got the time, my door is open and the kollection is always happy to show off. FT

Well gang - I talked to the Indianapolis Show guy today - We are not going to get the deal, for me at least, that ET got us in Nashville. But he is very excited about us coming if we decide to. He stated that he sells the show out every year, so any deal would not be to his advantage. He has said he can give us a corner area, 40+ feet, but that the cost is the same as everyone else - $650. I do think it's the same price as Nashville if I remember correctly, just not as much space! Now, this is a much easier drive for Me, Don,Roy,Dan and Deb ~ It may also get a few of the others in New York and other areas north to get involved! But further for BC and ET, and goes without saying, Bennett and Edwards would once again be asked to fly in. I have no problem putting this together, if it is understood, I will not do as good a job as ET! I also doubt we will be able to stay later and Jam - But I haven't gone there yet with that request! The clock is ticking gang - Time to step up! I wouldn't mind just flying out west, laying in the sun, having Jimm and Terry bring me Umbrella Drinks - But we have to make the call soon! Jc

I found the same problem last year with several show holders...the space costs them and they need to recoup...I went in with the thought that having a serious group like ours would actually enhance the show and that the schmo should be grateful we want to grace his halls and give us the space and all the free beer we could suck up...boy was I off a fret or two...Jim Reynolds was quite gracious and part of that was we chose a show that typically doesn't book well so he had the space regardless. It is important that we pay some comparable fee so that we don't cross up with the dealers at the show...its bad enough that we take advantage of them on price when buying their leftovers...ok..so I don't feel too guilty... but we do swap n sell and its fair to pay booth space...but checking some of our pictures from nashville.. we'd be a might cramped in a 40 ft space..

I think 40 foot would be very tight indeed! Has anyone thought about getting space at the Michigan Guitar Show on May 5-6? Just a thought..........

Hey - We can get as much space as we want - It just goes up another $325!! If we can get the space for $900 - Divided by the amount of people bringing stuff - Do the math - Jc

something else to look into...many times, as was the case in Nashville, there will be an adjacent hall that is or can be opened to the main show hall. If the booth space gets too expensive, there may be a reasonable delta to renting the adjacent hall direct from the facility rather than through the show sponsor. This way we are still a part of the show, but have all the space we need and at night security can shut the doors so we can stay after and have our jammin fun. Reynolds had looked into that for me last year and we were seriously considering it, but when he turned up with the space in the back for basically the price of 2 booth spaces and his desire to have us incorporated in his show...well..it just made more sense to do what we did....but in this years case....might do us to look into optional space...also... I had made arrangements with the Holiday Inn where most of stayed last year...they were going to rent us a meeting room for $125 with our minimum booking of 12 regular rooms so that we could have held court there...I think there is more magic being able to "show off" our kollection at a guitar show...but just throwing out some of the ideas that we played with last year....and now I'm gonna shut up.. I had fun doing all this last year...and I know it was rough around the edges...begging your mercy since it was my first time...but I know we can make it much better this year and I'm just looking forward to whatever ya'll come up with...and I'll support the booth costs even if I can't bring my gear....ET!

Hi ET, glad to see your back in time to put some input in our quest for the second annual kustom konvention. I was thinking that we need a show of hands if the Indi show is a go. I have that weekend off. I think the jam after was great, but if Bud and his first wife could attend, I think the storys that both can share, would out weigh the importance of having to pay extra for a place to jam. Has any one contacted Bud to see if he would be interested in attending again. Play loud and play kustoms. Don

Well, guys, my vote (though I'm not a kollector, just a fan and web editor) is for the Indy show, mainly because I go to school at Purdue, so Indy is only an hour's drive or so. We'll have to see closer to show time, but if lack of a place to jam after hours is the problem, and everyone who wanted to would fit, I don't think my housemates would mind if you all came to West Lafayette for the evening to jam. Just a thought, though it's an hour from Indy so maybe a hotel conference room would be better. -Hayden (Dan's Son)

hand in the air...October is probably the best time for me...all the weddings, etc will be over by then. Haven't checked my map...but I'm guess its a bit far to haul my rigs, but I am shopping for a new trailer, and who knows.. as for the bucks...just talked with JC on the phone about this..the reality of the Phily, and Indy big shows, is that they are successful and always book solid. This makes it tough for any show producer to cough up a deal on space since it would literally be asking him to give up some of his profit. One of the reasons the Nasville show worked, aside from Jim Reynolds being great about it, was that his show typically didn't fill and he knew he would have the space to be generous with. I can't blame the Indy boys for not being too coop with us. I've suggested we see if the show hall owners that rent the space have an adjoining room that would put us right in the midst of the guitar show so we still have the atmosphere but give us a lot more space for the bucks. Reynolds was going to do this with us last year which would be nice cause all they have to do is roll down the garage door at night and we could still have our area to ourselves...bring in a bucket of chicken and acase of beer and have a great time. If the hall just isn't available, then I guess we start thinking about a different venue....btw...in showing hands, who all is going to be able to bring their gear to Indy?..

I am planning on hauling as much as I can, but it sounds like we may be looking for a different show place. Standing by to see what develops. Don

I'm new to this page, but i go back a long way with Kustom's. Played in bands in Chanute in the 60's & as a kid, went to the original shop on 7th st. on Sat's to help out Bud & Carolyn when I could. Chanute doesn't have a big show of any type and is certianly not a big place, but I'd be willing to bet that there are more Kustom products still there than any other place on this planet. I still play in a band & just bought my 1st Kustom today (Bass amp) but when in Chanute, Bud always loaned us all the equipment we needed--guitars, amps, organs, whatever. He is a good person. I won't be able to go to this years bash, but would suggest a collector's only meeting in Chanute at some future date, as they have the structure to handle at least the collectors & have a large, indoor pavilion that could accomodate the event. If anyone is interested, let me know. Prices are cheap there. Interestingly, it is near the geographical center of the United States.
