Was on the net searching out 3 pairs of cabinet handles and a front plaque to freshen up my wall of kustoms and fell down into this great club of kustom fanatics. I never dreamed that these very same amps that began destroying my hearing back in 1968 at the high school dances would actually have a following 40 years later that seems to be quite large. And to think there is even a Kustom convention in September! WOW I have never had to put any of my amps in a repair shop, just blow the pots out with 120 psi. of air pressure and clean and crackle free! Did get a bit of short band Mexican radio the other night out of my Red 100 but it went away after opening and cleaning. I play on stage with a K200 3 15" cabinet and my trusty acoustic 370 371 amp thru a Yamaha BX1 bass.
I have decided to sell of my colored units and keep just the black ones, will list them soon. Good to meet ya'll and hope to talk to ya real soon.

Welcome to the forum, rockzombie !! I am originally from Louisiana, and currently live in SW Georgia (Bainbridge). I started my Kustom "habit" earlier this year. The only Kustom gear that I owned previously was a Kustom IV guitar head, that I played bass through. I always liked the tuck and roll amps ! My affection for them started at a young age - played at a "battle of the bands", and the bass rig supplied was a Kustom 400 head with (2) 3-15" cabinets - in blue sparkle ! Man, was I impressed ! As I have gotten older (56 y/o), I decided to indulge myself in some new toys. So far, I have a K200 bass head and a K200 PA head in black. I have been looking for a couple of 2-15 cabinets, but have not had any luck, as of yet. I DO have a line on a 3-12 cabinet in black - I hope to pick it up Saturday. I am open to other colors besides black - maybe we can do some "horse trading" in the future. Maybe I can help you with some black stuff, and you can help me with some other color. Again, WELCOME !!! Yes, welcome, indeed - glad you found the place! I'm also from Louisiana, also now living in Georgia (NE, though) (however, I'm "only" 54 now). I really loved the Kustom gear in my youth, but it was way out of my price range (My first couple of amps were small Alamo combos). My vintage gear hobby these days is combo organs, but my collection proudly boasts a gold Kustom Kombo organ, and a matching gold K150 2x10 combo. Oh, and I play bass, too (it's my main instrument, organs are just a hobby).
Wow, a red 3x15 AND an Acoustic 371! The 371 was the "amp to have" back in the day (still is, in many ways). Also way out of my price range. Doesn't look as cool as the Kustom (in any color!)
Yes, welcome to the place. There are a bunch of fanatics here, and it sounds like you will fit in very well.
Some of us collect, some of us play and some of us just drool. I personally love them all, black or colors. But there are some here that feel the black ones play louder!

CHICAGOBILL, Thru my years of research and development(beers and playing, chicks and playing, not playing at all) I have deduced that the black ones are not louder than the sparkle units, that would be absurd thinking! Most of us have come to realize that it's a weight issue. ex: Black is the heaviest, Red,Blue,Green are medium heavy, Yellow is much lighter, but the White and Silver are so light they tend to float about, hence the need for ashtrays, beers and mixed drinks placed atop these 'light' units as the ballasting aspect of said items tend to keep them a bit more in place.

Back in the day I switched from my Black k200 2-15 set up to my silver set up to help my at that time always half drunk drummer better find his way back to a dimly lighted stage in a big bar.
I called it the lighthouse!
