I recently got my hands on the K1002 head with the 2x12 cabinet. It's in perfect shape, except the power light doesn't go on. I unscrewed the outside blue glass part and found there was no bulb. Does anybody know what bulb fits in there? Preferably one from Radio Shack. I saw a few different bulbs mentioned in , but I don't know which will fit my amp. Thanks.

Hi,

The bulb you need is an 1829.

It is 28 volts 70ma
(#1819 is 28 volts 40ma and will work but is not as bright as #1829)
Radio Shack carries only the #1819 bulb...their number is 272-1119 and it sells for $1.79.
Do not use a 6.3 volt bulb, it will make the resistor run too hot.

The output of the transformer is 42 volts - a 200 ohm resistor is wired in series with the bulb that reduces the voltage down to 28 volts.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. Of course it's Sunday night, so I'll have to wait 'til tomorrow to get the bulb. I looked at Radio Shack's web site and they sell a 2-pack for $1.79. Not a bad deal. Thanks again.

Make sure you use the 1829 bulb. The blue lens and the slightly red filament of that lamp creates the best purple light in the business. Think of a '56 Chevy with a blue dot in the taillight. All you see is purple. I heard of a quote by Bud Ross that he used the blue lens instead of the usual red because on a dark stage he always knew when a Kustom was bsing used.

Thanks. I ordered the 1829 from mouser.com. While I was waiting for it, I went to RadioShack and bought the 1819 just to make sure it would work. But it does look great with the 1829. It's funny, when I unscrewed the color glass part it just looked blue. I was happily surprised to see it glow purple when I put the bulb in. Great stuff.
