I have a chance to buy an old Kustom 410 amp. I have only talked about it on the phone with the elderly gentleman that is selling it. Problem is I don't know a thing about it. Once I am standing next to it what would anyone suggest I look for?
Is there a info plate of some kind? He said it has 4 speakers and it is just a "big box". Only other info was aserial number 96909. and a pat. number K-129. Any help on how I should proceed would be cool.

With a serial number of 96909, it is a Kustom Hustler model 24-L.
It was made about January 1973.
Amp output is 75 watts RMS.
The Hustler is a guitar amp (you could use it for bass if you wanted to, but it is not your best choice). The speaker enclosure volume is fairly small (2.1 cu ft) so it won't go as deep as a bigger cabinet.

I would make sure that each speaker works – just put your ear directly in front of each one and you can tell.
Also, I would make sure that all four speakers all look the same - that they match each other.
Also make sure it is not too noisy – a hissing sound when you are not playing – actually this is a later model and is normally not as noisy as the earlier ones.
Make sure that the reverb works – turn up the reverb control as you are playing through the amp.
Make sure all the other controls work also.
Be aware that Kustoms get loud early – don’t be surprised if full volume (without distortion) is reached around 11 o’clock on the volume control – this is normal.
On this website, go to Literature/Other Tuck and Roll/Combos/Super Sound Series to find the info for this model.
Also, do a search on this website for "Hustler".

I see the Hustler 410 but it is saying 150 watts. Where exactly is the 24-L? What would this thing be worth if it's in reasonable shape?

Les...you are great on the resource..thanks for always being such a help...Ras...the kustom logo plates always boated double the RMS wattage, so..yes..it would say 150 but the amp is actually pumping only 75watts..which is still a good bit of beef for guitar...while the cab is thin and lacks the boxspace to get deep tones...its actually voiced quite well for most guitar work and that much conage will give you some good volume..its also a nice sized amp for stage...not huge...still subtle combo size..but big enough to make a cool visual statement..
I have 3 of those..one, in my black collection and two others in blue sparkle..my ultimate stereo dream rig...mine are the older plexi 150s..but same basic idea...on the rare occasion when I find myself on a larger outdoor stage and I want to actually hear my backline.. I prefer 12s both in my combos and my larger cabs...but most times...my little 2x10 combos are plenty..and 4x10s are a dream....the hustler era....tend to get a little les price respect..but still ..if its clean cosmetically... $250 to 300.. a tad more if in a color and very clean...
