Hello. I have a 100 series 1x15 CTS loaded bass cab. The cab has been recovered in new black tuck and roll and it's missing the logo, but the speaker is stock. I noticed that the inside of the cabinet does not have the usual insulation lining of other Kustoms I have seen. As a result, I have noticed, when i use my K200 head with it, it gets more bass response than my friend's stock 2x15 CTS cab with the insulation when used with the same amp head. I think the insulation sucks up the bass frequencies. I also use some 1x15 PA cabs with the head and they have more bass response than the 2x15 as well; they don't have insulation in them either. Any thoughts on that? Do you think it would be wise if i bought a 2x15 bass cab to remove the insluation? Thanks!

Hello. Good call! One of the two cabinets had the top speaker wired out of phase. My friend's dad, the original owner, had the pair of 2x15's labeled as "HIGH FREQ." AND "LOW FREQ." for a long time becuse he thought he blew one of the speakers in the out-of-phase speaker cab. I guess he or someone else had worked on the speaker cab at some point and didn't put it back together correctly. I properly re-connected the top speaker and the pair of them SLAMS! It made pictures on the opposite side of the room shake! That 1x15 though, for having a 16 ohm speaker and no insulation, sure has a lot of bass to it with a K200 head. I love the sound of those CTS drivers for bass, I don't like the tweeters in bass amps they have out now. In fact, i have a Fender Bassman 200 1x15 combo with a tweeter and I keep the tweeter turned off. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion, my friend's dad will estatic!
P.S.- If any of you are from around the Milwaukee area, the friend's dad I am referring to is Mike Zemlicka, the bassist for "Truc." They played at Summerfest in 1972 and opened for David Bowie. He's an awesome guy and he still plays now and then. Too bad the got rid of the original amp for the speakers though, but oh well.

Truc? Now there's a name I haven't heard in a long time. I remember them when I went to MSOE. I still live in Mukwonago. I have for 26 years. I wonder how many more of us live in this general area? I bought my first K200 PA system from West Allis Music and worked for them as a tech in the early 80's. When they folded, I worked for Ralph Hanzel who originally owned West Allis Music. I haven't done repair professionally for 20 years, but I keep my own stuff running. I will keep you posted on my next sound gig. I am running 2 3x15 sirens with JBL's and 2 4x12 columns with JLS's. That system really kicks.

I have a sound gig on Saturday. I'm not sure where it is yet as I am in Russia and will not be home until Friday afternoon. The band is SolSet and they are really good. You may want to check it out.

I would check that speaker that was out of phase for buzz or noise. Many times when a speaker cone is driven hard enough backwards it bottoms out and damages the voice coil.
