I recently bought a kustom 3x15 off of someone for $150.00. the person who sold it to me had no clue about it so i am hoping some of you guys could help me out. first, i was wondering about the ohms, i tested the speakers and it said 4, but sometimes i dont trust those things and i have read on here that the kustom 3x15 doesnt run at 4. Also i was wondering about the watts, when i opened the back i didnt find any specs. finally, i was wondering what you guys would suggest the best head for this cabinet would be. I have tried a sunn 400 watt, it was loud but i couldnt get the right tone and i think it was just too much for the cab. i also tried a hartke 350 solid state, wich sounded good but i still think i could get a better sound out of this thing. If any of you guys could help me out at all and hook me up with suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, The speakers in an original 3x15 were all 16 ohm speakers. That would yield a 5.3 ohm cabinet. That is a very odd value but the 3x15 was designed to run by itself, that is only 1 cabinet. When reading the impedance with an ohmmeter, the reading will always be slightly less than the actual impedance. So 4 ohms sounds about right. If your cabinet is tapered when looking at it from the side, a 200 series amp would have been used with that cabinet. Here is where others will chime in if I'm wrong. I believe that the 250 series cabinets were not tapered. That would tell you the appropriate Kustom head to use, However, if you are not going for vintage perfection either head would be fine. A K200 would be 100 watts and a 250 would be 125 watts. If you can't get the sound you expect, maybe one or more speakers could be bad. Also, there has been an ongoing discussion about the internal volume of the 3x15 cabinets not being enough for 3 15" speakers. I am avoiding that discussion. Check out the recent postings on "cab speaker impedances" in the comment board. They get into all kinds of modifications to make the 3x15 sound better. Check it out. Conrad

Hi,I have 2 3-15 cabs on that is for bass with the rear jack tag that says CTS for the type of speakers it came loaded with.My other cab has jensen speakers( no aluminum voice coil cover with a 1/2" hole in the center of it known as kustom special design)and they do not not have enough high end, to me for guitar.
