I got this new K50-2 combo today
the reverb....it sounds like cymbals clashing past 2.

I have never really heard a Kustom prior to today.... I see alot of positive comments about the reverb by other people. I also have a fender deluxe reverb...I dont think im just comparing it to that...

If the reverb sounds very glassy, brittle..like cymbals crashing...what could be the problem? or is this normal?

Also, Im hearing vibrations when Im playing lower notes. Something is vibrating in the amp section. I tightened up all the speaker nuts....could it be the reverb mechanism ?

Has anyone had a problem with their combo..with vibration/rattle sounds? Is it easy to access the amp and look inside?

Thanks for any info

Hello. The reverbs on Kustom amps are very touchy, but if sounds like that, then you probably have a busted spring. I have a K200-A5 with a spring reverb and it sounds nice, but it is touchy, I get a splash sound every time I plug in or unplug a cord from it. Replacement pans are availiable; i'm sure someone else could adivise you on a part number from some retailer. Good luck!

thanks.
if anyone could give me advice regarding how to access the pan i would appreciate it...i suspect that after i take off the back cover..the four screws underneath the amp section need to be removed but im not sure yet.

its hard to believe a spring is busted as this amp is pristine...it looks like was never used..just stored since birth. but maybe. im not sure what it takes to break a spring

I have never worked on that model before, but if its like other Kustom Kombs the head will slide out from the rear once the 4 screws from inside the speaker portion of the cabinet are removed.Even though the amp is pristine, that does not mean one of the 2 springs in the reverb pan cant be busted. untill Kustom came out with the metal face amps the reverb pans just sat on the 2 upper cross amp frame bars, and with this set up the combo amps reverb pan are very sensivtive to vibrations. On all of mine I have used cable ties to just bearly hang the pan from the under side of the cross bars.On the metal face amps they finaly shock mounted the pans on the inside rear wall of the heads with (4) 2 studed rubber mounts, which dry rot and then do not absorb much vibration any more, or just break and let the pan dangle and slap around.I can not say for sure, but that amp should take the standard replacement pan should you need it, and I have posted its accutronics part number here before.Do a search and see if you can find it, if not I will find my info and post it for you.

Thanks alot. Ill get it apart and see whats going on. Something is definately wrong. With all the positive comments about the reverb on these, im sure it should sound better.

i geuess the best way to describe the sound of the reverb past 2 is "uncontrolled"...it is very iradic...sort of sounds like a never ending echo....

thanks again

I opened up the amp and looked inside the tank. There are two springs and everything looks perfect. I think that the rubber mounts are a little dry...not sure what else it could be. Ill try fabricating a better suspension for it...it totally sounds like crap and I know that two-spring tanks are supposed to sound the best and this clearly does not

anyway, thanks for you help

If you go look inside the reverb pan again, at each end, the little wires that come off the RCA jacks go to a coil inside a rectangular iron piece that holds the coil. That coil should be held tight inside the iron. If it is not, then that coil can not transfer its vibration into the springs. You should slid that coil to one end or the other, it does not matter, and get some thick gap filling superglue and glue it to the steel.
