Hi there,
I just (today) drove my "new" Kustom K250-4 amp and 2x15 cabinet home, and of course I'm a bit curious on when it was made...
If someone here could help me out dating this thing I would be most grateful.
The serial number is: 98290

Also - are there any priority-one-checks I should do before taking the amp to the studio? I've read some about the reverb bay, and will check that tomorrow, but is there anything else?
This thing has a 3 prone electrical cord, possibly changed when changing it to run on Swedish 230V...

Hello. The 3-prong cord must be a replacment, If you are going into the studio I would bring along a ground lift adapter or a make up one that will let you reverse the plug if need be to get the lowest hum. If everything works ok on the amp you should be fine, just make sure that none of the controls need cleaning to the point that they can go intermitant while stationary.I also would not engage the reverb lock untill I got in there to check the condition of the foam locking pad. With age that pad makes more problems than it solves! There is a post on here by our pal Les, that will help you date the amp. If I am not mistaken they where made from 71 to 73. If you want to date it down to the month of production, you have to find the date on one of the amps pots, which can be a pain with the way they are mounted to there boards. On a CTS made pot the first three digets 137 mean its a CTS pot, the next diget is year, and the next 2 are week IE 137252 would be december 1972.

Thanks!
That worked out down to a narrow month range on both the amp and the cabinet - early 1973 for both of them!

Thank You again (and a big thanks to Les for gathering and spreading the info to all of us)!!

Hi Fieldflower,
Your head was probably made February 1973.

Your head has the K250 power revision (Nov 5, 1971) so it has better gain than the early models.

Fieldflower, try using the lower input jack on either channel and you will find that it will have more gain than the top input jack, kustom did this to provide a choice of gain to match the pickups of single coil or humbucking.
