I have 2 K150-2 heads and the 1G+1H cab that's been on topic and my older (to me) head's T&R is the smooth black and dull in color version but the other head and 1G+1H cab's T&R is very shiny black wrinkle texture. When and why did this change happen? Any difference in value?

The shiny stuff is called cool black. It is delicate and can be snagged by a finger nail and torn. Some people love it and some hate it. Not worth any more to me, but someone looking for a cool black 1G+H cab may give you a little more, but not much. It is just one of those things. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. They did this in the 70's and a lot of the metal faced period amps were covered in cool black and a few of the plexi amps were covered as well. I did see a K25 in cool black, I would consider that a pretty rare piece. When did they do it exactly? I bet noone knows exactly as they did all kinds of strange things.

I'm a guitar player that keeps my nails cut short. The "Cool black" covering on my amp doesn't look or feel quite that delicate but not as tough as the regular stuff I guess. At first I was a little put off by it but I'm getting used to the uniqueness of it now. You don't see it too often.

The earliest I remember is mid 1970 for the kool black. One collector has a plexi face K150-6 bass rig and I just picked up a K150-7 in kool black. According to a chart that LesS made, mine dates to June 1971. I've seen the Kool black K25 on ebay a while back, but I would bet the chassis had been swapped into the kool black case. The K25 wasn't in production that long before Kustom replaced it with the K50. The K25 would have been long out of production by the time kustom offered the kool black. I think you asked why they offered kool black and regular black. Bud said that 55% of all sales were black and I think they were just trying to update and try something a little different. I just haven't seen that many plexi faced amps covered in kool black. The store I worked at never ordered any amps in kool black until Sept. 1971 when Kustom came out with the slant metal face amps. We sold quite a few of the Sidewinders and Challengers in kool black.
