CTS drivers were the standard bass driver for Kustom. This driver was actually designed for use in horn-loaded systems but performs admirably in vented box systems too. Klipsch speakers actually are the ones who originally spec'd the CTS 15" driver used by Kustom. The same driver was used in the Klipsch Klipschorn, Belle Klipsch, LaScalla & the vented box Cornwall speaker systems. Klipsch contracted CTS to make these drivers to specification for them. CTS also sold the units OEM to other manufacturers such as Kustom and sold them under their own brandname as well. Klipsch used these CTS drivers until they bought-out Pyle Drivers, around the mid-late 80's I believe.
So even though the CTS drivers aren't quite up to par with the JBL 140 series as far as musical instrument drivers go, you can be assured you are in very good company!

Yes....no make that YES! They have much more bottom and will not distort as soon. Most 200s start to breakup as soon as the volume hits the 11 o'clock position...a little higher with JBL's. For the price and performance I love the CTS 15's. The CTS 12s are also great in the 100 series cabinets for bass. Two of these cabinets under a 200 head make a great setup you can move in a car! I have two of the CTS 3x15 cabinets that I use for bass and I like the position of the top speaker for self monitoring! BC!

My 1970 Kustom 3x15 cabinet came with two 15" Jensen's and a 15" HF horn/driver w/ capacitor crossover. I have replaced the 15" 8 Ohm horn/driver unit with an 15" 8 Ohm Eminence bass speaker with Dural dust cover from a 1970 Sunn cabinet. I have really enjoyed this unique set-up and found it to be the best two-way cabinet other than the SVT-1540HE (1x15", 4x10", tweeter)!

Robbie, did you leave the crossover cap in place when you removed the horn and driver? If not, and you are using the two original jensens, they are 16 ohm speakers. Adding the other 15" that is 8 ohms, you have a 4 ohm total load, if they are all wired in parallel. The problem I see is that each of the 16 ohms speakers are using 25% each of the ava. power, and the 8 ohm is using 50%. Thats the problem with mixing speakers of different impedances. a 8ohm will be louder than a 16 ohm. Don

As I recall, the CTS drivers were used as the standard speakers in the bass cabinets. Jensens were used as standard equipment in the guitar cabinets. The 15" CTS drivers used in the bass cabinets were actually made to spec for Klipsch for use in the Klipschorn and later also used by Klipsch for the Belle Klipsch, LaScalla & Cornwall speaker systems which are still in production today. CTS also sold these same drivers under their own name as well as OEM to other manufacturers such as Kustom.
