I recently got a Kustom K 100-1 head and 2-12 cabinet from a friend. Tuck and roll blue.
Serial number of the amp is 70235, The serial number of the cabinet is 23561. Anyone have an idea of the production dates of these items?

Thanks
Bill

Hi Bill,
The K100-1 amp SN 70235 was made May 5, 1971 plus or minus about three weeks.
The 2x12 cabinet is from the same approx time period.
What speakers are in the cabinet - CTS, Jensen, ?

Without opening the cabinet, one clue for Altecs would be 3 inch aluminum center caps. They would be solid - no center hole.
Weight could also clue you in.
Jensen or CTS lead speakers are 16 lbs per pair
Altecs 12 are 30 lbs per pair
CTS bass 12's are 31 lbs per pair

So 2x12 cabinet weights would be approx:
57 lbs..with Jensen or CTS lead speakers
71 lbs..with Altecs 12 (3" alum cap)
72 lbs..with CTS bass 12's (paper cap)

I'll take the back off and take a look inside. BTW, just out of curiosity, is this rig worth anything?, A little beat up in the back on the lower right. Rest is pretty good. I also have a 3-12 cabinet in my basement.. forgot all about it until today. I took 2 speakers out years ago to put in my home stereo cabinets, but I'm using a smaller system now and I guess I'll put them back in the Kustom cabinet.

and thanks for all your help so far..

As far as value, the main thing is the condition of the tuck and roll - any cuts, burns, etc. and for the amp does eveything work - both channels, all the controls, etc. Can you post a picture of it?
Also, what color is the 3x12?

Well.. the guy just dropped it off in my basement today... I didn't even get a chance to plug it in. I'll have to put it through its paces to see if everything works. he said it did.

As for the 3-12 cab, its blue tuck and roll. I'll take some pics of the head and the 2 cabinets and post them online and send you a link when they're up.

Well.. here's a link to pics:
http://picasaweb.google.com/Fendrbass/KustomAmp1409747PM#

The speakers did have the aluminum center caps, so I guess there're Altecs. I'm pretty sure that the casters have been replaced because they don't look anything like the ones on the 3-12 cabinet I have.

The last pic in the album is a quick shot of the 3-12 cabinet.

Bill,
They sure look like Altecs.
For some reason the cap on the bottom speaker seems a little different from the top one.
I would remove those giant casters and get some Kustom casters - Bob Noell sells them on ebay.

If you ever want to sell that 3x12, I would be interested.

That could just be the mesh. Any idea of what that rig complete with the kustom covers is worth?... and I'll let you know bout that 3-12 cab. I need to pull it out and put it back together.

Assuming both speakers work, both channels work, the amp plays loud and clear, and no issues:
I would say about $400 to $500 or more as it is.
With new casters, knob replaced, cuts glued down, cleaned and detailed - about $500 to $600 or more.
Kustom values can be very erratic. Three years ago I sold a mint red K100 with Altec 2x12 for $625, then one similar sold for $1100 a year later. I have seen one in very good shape recently I could have gotten for $295.
I would just put on ebay with really good pictures, start it at $350 to $400, and let the market take its course.
