I have acquired a Kustom 200 head and 3x12" cabinet. The speaker cones have been eaten by mice! I would like to replace the speakers but not sure of the impedance. The speakers are Jensen special design with the following numbers: 30410 C8774-4R C12N 220035. The serial number on the speaker cabinet is 16128. I would also like to know where to find owner's manual. Would appreciate any help. Thanks, Cecil (Old Rocker/Drummer)

Cecil,
The speakers were 16 ohms each and they were wired in parallel.
You might check out having them repaired, as Jensen C12N's are pretty valuable.

Did the mice completely eat the cones, or just make a few holes?

The minimum impedance for the K200 head is 4 ohms.

Les , thanks for the quick reply. The cones are completely gone, the mice did a job on them. The main reason I want to restore the system is mainly because it was given to me by the wife of my best friend and lead man in our group who passed away last year. It means a lot to me and will be used for a rehersal amp as our band is still performing. Our group, The Rebel Rousers, was formed in 1958 and is cellebrating 50 years of being together with 3 original members still rocking. We play classic country and rock. Back in the 60,s we had all Kustom gear and this amp was one of them. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated, thanks,Cecil.

Cecil,
I would get your Jensens reconed.
I listed some companies that do reconing below.
Maybe somebody else will post a reconing place in Kentucky or close by.

I recone all of my own speakers and I buy from Simply Speakers. These guys are really great to work with. I would recommend them just because of their willingness to work with you.

From the rear tag on the head, what model K200 do you have? as if it was purchased new in 68 it should be a K200B - something model, like K200-2 out of the five possible models.

I dont see a model no. on the back . The only no. I can make out is 63698 but i,m not sure of the no. as it is very faded. I also would like to know since there are two speaker out jacks, will this head run an additional cabinet? Also what is the rca jack for? Sorry for sounding so dumb, but i,m a drummer, ha. thanks,Cecil

Cecil,
With a serial number of 68xxx, it would be one of these K200B models shown below.
Also what color is it?
It can run one 4 ohm speaker, or two 8 ohm speakers.
The RCA jack is preamp-out.

K200B-1 ...2 channels, 8 knobs, no reverb
K200B-2 ...2 channels, 11 knobs, reverb, vibrato
K200B-3 ...2 channels, harmonic clipper, selective boost
K200B-4 ...2 channels, reverb, vibrato, harmonic clipper, & selective boost
K200B-5 ...4 channels, PA, 16 knobs, has reverb
K200B-6 ...Selectone - has 8 knobs like B-1 but L channel has selectone + pull bright

For the 200B series the four configurations were:
-1 no effects
-2 reverb & vibrato
-3 harmonic clipper & selective boost
-4 reverb, vibrato, harmonic clipper, & selective boost
(These four configurations were in the Kustom catalog as Lead amps.)

Les, from what you have described I must have a K200B-2 as it has 11 knobs. It is what I would call silver or gray sparkle. Do you know where I might find an owners manual? I also have a question about replacing the speakers. would it affect anything to replace two of the speakers as originals and one as a woofer to increase bass response and use one channel for guitar and one for bass strictly for practice? Thanks, Cecil.

Hey BC, I live about a mile from the light on US 60 at Hobbs road. I have a daughter and son in law working at USEC, Kim and Dale Cobb. I just got this amp from Judy Baker whose late husband Don played in the Rebel Rousers with me. I am replacing the speakers in the cabinet with Carvin rocket 50,s since mice had eaten all the speaker cones. We are going to use the amp for practice. Would you know where I might find an owners manual, the head is a K200B-2? Holler back when you can, Cecil.

Hey Cecil....The owners manuals do not give much detail but I have one for a similar model......SOMEWHERE. I will see if I can find it. I remember standing outside of the Cardinal Lounge when I was a kid listening to the Rebel Rousers while mom shopped at Cardinal Point! If you would like to talk Kustoms send me a private message through this site with your contact number. I will be working tonight and might find time for a short call. BC

Cecil, make sure that you buy 16 ohm speakers and wire them in parallel. Red to + on all speakers and black to - on all speakers. This will give you a 5.66 ohm load to the amp. K200 amps want a 4 ohm load or greater. I wouldn't add another cabinet to the head since the added cabinet would drop the total impedance far below the 4 ohm load. On your thoughts of changing one of the speakers for a larger size, that's requires cutting the mounting bolts off the baffle board or replacing the complete baffle board with a new one. I'd suggest leaving it as original as you can. I would have the jensens reconed, reconing a speaker, the only thing used is the actual metal frame and magnet, everything else is replaced. If you are planning on using the cabinet with a bass guitar then maybe the carvin's would be the way to go. Brad is a great guy and it's kool to see you both live so close together. pleat
