Newbie here, just found website. I've got a K200/A2 with matching speaker cabinet. It's a gold sparkle T/R in excellent condition. The cab has the original 4x10's and I've got the foot switch. I've had this for 10+ years and its been all over with me. I was wondering if anybody had any info or thoughts about it. I also was curious about its value, not thats its for sale.
Thanks alot.

Hi,
The K200A-2 is 100 watts at 4 ohms. It was made from about Nov 1967 to June 1968, at which time Kustom came out with the B models (example K200B-2).
As far as value, the main thing is the condition of the tuck & roll (cuts, fading, discoloration, etc.) and the condition of the amp - does everything work, etc.
The 4x10 cabinet is less common than the 2x15. What speakers are in it? Do they have aluminum speaker caps? What does the jack-plate say? -JBL, CTS, Jensen, etc.
Can you post a picture?
There is a lot of info on this site - see the Literature section, also search for "K200A" or "K200A-2".

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. The serial # is 23566 and the speakers do have the dust caps. I'll open up the back to take a look at the speakers later, but there was no indication on the jack plate. Overall, its in excellent shape, no tears on covering, and works great. I'll post some pictures of it and my other kustom practice amp. Its old too and I picked it up for $20.00 at a garage sale long ago.

Thanks again

I just picked up at K200A-2 out here in SF. Just the head no cab. I can't get the search function to work on this board . . . so can someone either send me links to more info or just pass along their thoughts:
- Hoping to run a bass through this amp
- I see from earlier posts its 100 watts at 4 ohms, right? I'm new to bass cabs, so plugging it into an 8 ohm cab is going to halve the wattage (50 watts or so)?
- Stock cab is 2 x 15"? Should I seek out a 2 x 15 or can I pair it with a 4 x 10?
- Any other thoughts would be great, this is my first Kustom, don't have a cab to plug it into yet, not even sure it works!
Thanks,
M

Turn it on first and than plug in a set of headphones into one of the two speaker output jacks on the left rear side of the amp.

You can plug it into any speaker cabinet you like as long as its 4 ohms or higher, if you do a search you can find a posting I did some two years ago when a measured Kustom amp outputs at different load ratings.

Thanks for the info.
Ugh, unfortunately, I can't get the search function to work on this board. Everytime I search (even the most generic term), I get "no results" as the response. Is there something wrong with the search function?

The search function is working for me today - I just tried it.
It works for words - it does not work for numbers.

It is 100 watts at 4 ohms, so when used with an 8 ohm cab, it will put out about 60 watts.

It was sold with different cabs - 2x15, 4x10, 3x12, 3x15, etc.
You can use it with a 2x12 - but Kustom's is not as wide so it won't match up exactly.
Basically it will work with most any 4 ohm or 8 ohm cabinet.

There are two jacks on the back, right hand side of my K200a-2 head. The upper right hand one is small, maybe 1/4 inch size, the lower right 'jack' (for lack of a better description) has approx 4 pins and a female plug/port that something plugs into. What are these for?

Thanks for all the info!

snoopz--

ON my K-200A-2, the upper jack on the right side (while looking straight at the back) is a female RCA jack, presumably a line out. This board will correct me if I'm wrong. The lower right jack is for a footswitch that controls the reverb and tremolo on/off function.

The pins on the footswitch jack are in a smiley formation. While looking at the back of the amp, the leftmost pin controls the tremolo, the second left pin controls the reverb, and the other pins are not used. By connecting the pins to ground, you can control the effects.

zebrostripe-

thanks for the info. just noticed your thread over on the repair/replacement parts section, very helpful. sounds like you are a couple steps ahead of me in learning the ins and outs of this amp, so you will be a great source of info . . .

thank again.

The RCA jack on the rear of a Kustom amp is a record output as the factory intended it. It can drive another amp just fine but it does not even output zero DB (or .775 volts) so if you use it to drive the input of a power amp many of them thses days need more than even zero DB to drive to full wattge, they need +1.4 DB, or twice that .775 voltage of a zero DB drive level!
