I was just "given" a beautiful Kustom K200B-1 Head and speaker cab.
I was told that the head works fine, but you know how that goes when you have no way to test it. The cabinet has no speakers and I I have no idea what the recommended impedance is for this amp. I plan to put a couple of Peavy Black Widows but need to know 4,8, or 16 ohm. The amp and speaker cab were really well taken care of and I'd like to put this thing back to work..Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the board. Long time bass player and Kustom user here. You are on the way to a great amp. I have said for many years if I could only have ONE amp it would be a K200B-1 with a 2x15 cabinet. The Kustom 2x15 cabinet was originally loaded with two 16 ohm speakers wired parallel for a total 8 ohm load. However, they were also designed for use with a second cabinet...so a 4 ohm load is what sounds best. I have tried PV BWs in Kustoms and PERSONALLY they were not my thing. I love them in Peavey cabs but I was not happy with the tone in the Kustom cabinet. My personal favorite 15 with any Kustom head is the old Altec 421-A. You can find recones of these on the web for about the same price as the BWs. Others like JBL D140 and various Eminence also do well. Another great sounding 15 is from Warehouse speakers on the internet. I used a pair of these in a 2x15 cabinet at the Kustom Convention in Chanute last June....anyone who was there could tell you about them. The bottom line is that if you plan to always use one cabinet load the cabinet for 4 ohms....if you would like to add a second someday....load it for 8 ohms! BC Cool
