Hi everyone!
Surprised

I have two 2x15 Kustom cabs, and would like to keep only one of them.
One of them has 2x15 KEI speakers (with silver dust caps), and the other one has the speakers shown below...

Any infos would be very appreciated.

Wich one of the two are better?
Wich one can handle more power?
More for bass or guitar?
etc...

Thanks!
Very Happy

It depends if you are playing bass or guitar.
The KEI drivers are for guitar, and the CTS drivers in your picture may just be bass drivers as I can not tell without a picture of the front of the cone.
If the cone has no rings or ribs inbetween the voice coil cover and the surround at the mounting lip of the driver than its a CTS bass driver.

Power wise they both handle about the same power so I would leave that as a non factor.

Hi!
Thanks!

Well, the front of the speaker seems to be axactly like the ones in my 3x15" Kustom cabs.
And the back of the speakers in my 3x15" are like the one in the picture.
So the one in the picture are probably bass speakers.

I'm a guitar player, and I tried the 2x15" with the speakers in the picture, wich would be CTS?, and it surely sound very good!
A lot of chunk.
A little bit limited in the high frequency range, but with the help of the treble knob, I can reach a good amount of clarity.

My main concern is, I have a 2x15" KEI Kustom cab with a horn, and I am wondering, should I keep the KEI, or replace them with the CTS. The two of them sound great.
Difficult decision.

Any thaughts or comments that could help me decide are welcome!
Smile

Thanks!

Looking at the speaker, it has the kustom part number 038-0029-00 which was used only in the kasino line. The 4 ohm is the give a way. All kustom cabs from the K200 series use 16 ohms. The speaker shown was used in the Kasino folded horn cabs, model number 152W and X150W cabs. The X150W had the head in the cab. The 152W is a stand alone folded horn cab with the Kasino power module in the back of the amp. These cabs were sold as bass amps. If both speakers are 4 ohm and wired in parallel you have a 2 ohm cab. Wired in series, you have a 8 ohm cab. Kustom amps want to run 4 ohms for max output. I would wire the 4 ohm speakers in series to help protect the amp. Assuming that you are driving the cab with a kustom amp. At some point in time befoe you got the cabinets, a dealer might have changed out blown speakers in your cab with what he had in stock and never paid any attention to the impedance. As far as which sounds better, the CTS or the KEI is a personal preference and what you want to accomplish with the instrument you plan on using.

Hey!
Thanks!

So running the cab at 2ohms could be dangerous for the amp...
But in series, at 8ohms, I will have less power...
The sound will be attenuated, and will probably sound "duller" (less clear) ?
Hmmm... Difficult choice...

What do you think?

Later!

At 8 ohms the amp will still output 75 watts RMS with all the same tone, its not like a tube amp which can change its reponce with different loads.

A 2 ohm load willmake the amp run twice as hot and roast itself to the point of harming the output stage, abnd when the output stage blows it can take the drivers with it at times!
