Hello Everyone,

I have been looking for Bright Switch Tone Knobs for my Kustom 150 combo bass amp for a few years now. Not sure about the year but its an early to mid 70's tuck and roll.
I recently ordered 2 black fluted silver center large dot index knobs from Small Berr Electronics and they don't fit either.
I thought these would be the correct ones before I purchased them.
Does anyone know where I can purchase the correct knobs?

The serach continues.

Thanks,

Craig

If you are not the original owner of this amp then it is possible that it was repaired with replacement pots that do not have the same 1/4" shaft size.

Are you saying that the knobs don't fit onto the shaft or they don't look right or what?

If it is a physical fit problem, the thing to try is to remove the knob from the volume control, does it fit the bright switch?

Can you post a photo?

The volume, bass and treble knobs are all the same and don't fit where the bright switch is. I believe the bright switch knob is a sort of set screw knob.
The bright knob turns the bright switch on and off with a turn and a click. The knobs that I bought for the bright switches only go in half way so they can't turn the switch.
However both knobs are the same size.

The new knobs have set screws. Have you tried loosening the screws to see if that will allow them to seat correctly?

Hey Craig,
Could you post a picture of the bright switch (without the knob on it)?
Sorry for the dumb question, but does this amp have a plexiglass faceplate or a metal faceplate?
Thanks,
Les

I spoke with Craig yesterday on the phone and the amp is the k150-6 single 15 plexi face amp. I'm starting to think that the bright switches may have been replaced at some time with non factory switch that may be a straigt round shaft. Photo's of the shaft and maybe a photo of the inside of the amp would explain a lot of why the other original knobs won't fit. The diameter of the shafts may be a metric and just a little to large in diameter to fit a standard knobs.

I have seen it happen when the original set screws have been so over tightened, that the brass shaft of a pot or switch will become chewed up enough to stop a knob from getting past that point on the shaft.

Did they ever make a metal front 150 combo?

Not that I have ever seen, all the 150 combo`s are plexi.
If memory serves me right all the knobs are the same. I will dig out my K100-8C tonight and check my bright switch knob and report back.

Kustom made the SC series that were self contained (amp and speaker in one cabinet) the black plexi series. The SS series were the slant metal face challenger, hustler, commander, sidewinder and the Charger was the bas model. The latter K150 slant face amps were piggy back models.

On my K100 combo all the knobs are the same, they all use a set screw to hold them on and all of the controls have a 1/4" shaft with the cut back notch/D section at the shafts start.
