Laying out speaker cabinet -- Two possible tracks -- 4- 12s or 2 - 12's --- probably 2-12 but my grandson thinks I should make two cabinets with 2 12"s with piezo tweeters. Which is better round or horn? And how many per cabinet. Do they change the impedance rating? I have read somewhere that Kustom amps do not like these and they can cause major problems. Are they wired with a pair or with each speaker. What effect to they really have because I have also read that they really make no noticeable difference.
I am building my cabinet out of solid walnut wood, with a natural finish not plywood as I have over 300 board feet available. I understand that can also change the sound over plywood. However, I like the look of real wood. It will be closed back and ported. There is very little chance this cabinet(s) will be used outside.
Also do I put insulation on the inside or not, again I have read "absolute" recommendations both ways. What is your experience? Thanks for your help.

Your question on Piezo's or horns. Piezo's don't need a cross over to filter the low freq. from getting to the piezo. Piezo's start at around 3K and go well beyond 20K in frequency.
Mid range horns will require a crossover of some type to filter the lows to avoid destroying the horn driver. I'd skip using horns or piezo's if you are using it as a guitar cabinet. You will get a much more pleasing sound without them.
Piezo's and Kustoms do require a 50 ohm 5 watt resistor in series to the piezos to keep the amp from over heating. If your building the cabinet for guitar, Cabinet design, I'll let someone else help you in that department. I know there are guys on this site that can tell you how much internal volume of space you need for building a good sounding cabinet.

Pleat - I am building it mostly for guitar but will also be using it for vocals. Will be using a six string electric, a 12 string acoustic electric and of course the vocals. Trying to find the best combination of sound. This will not be used for lead very much. If I use them I will get the 50 ohm 5 watt resister. You mentioned "You will get a much more pleasing sound without them" --- in what way? Mellow -- harsh --- tinny ? I am in an area here that I do not know well.

Piezos can be very harsh. Above 6000 Hz or so, most of your sound information is mostly harmonics and very small instruments like a triangle or piccolo. I realize that might sound strange by physics doesn't lie. You need larger and bigger to produce and reproduce low frequency sound. I might alter that if I were trying to amplify a female voice. I would prefer a 2x6 horn with a diaphragm driver but for the most part, in small venues, like the living room, 12" speakers work great. I routinely use 4 Kustom 2x12 cabinets in open air parks as a small PA. I use them for sound while showing movies. Not music completely but the highs are well represented. I have 3 cabinets with Jensens and and 1 with CTS's. It is usually the lows that get lost.

Thanks for the information - it helps. While it probably will not be used outside, it will be in different settings, from the living room to (in some cases) very large rooms. (churches) Thanks for the help, I am a real novice here having built only one speaker cabinet before.
