I have a Kustom speaker cabinet that I need help figguring out what wattage rating head I need to use.
The cabinet is black tuck& roll from 60's or 70's it has 3 10 inch speakers vertical.
I'm not seeing anything here with 3 10'S

The dims are 47 tall 25 wide & 13 deep.
There is on info on the case or inside or on the speakers.
Only the Kuston badge on the front "Kustom electronics Inc."
On the input plate it has CTS.
Anyone know what model I have & wattage & oms.
It had an EMC 150 watt head that isn't working right.
Is this thing ok to use as a bass amp?
Thanks for any info

You have a 3x12" cabinet with CTS speakers, assuming they are original. They should be 16 ohm speakers wired in parallel.

Hello and welcome!
Their is no particular wattage that is needed to power that cabinet, but the K200 serise head that would have been paired with was able to output 100 watts RMS, but for just even ohm Bass use it would be good to have at least a 30 watt RMS amp powering the cabinet.

Since your cabinet is fitted, or was fitted with CTS drivers it originally it could have been made for bass use and here is how to tell.
The CTS guitar drivers had Aluminum center voice coil covers with a 1/2" diameter black vent hole in the center. the bass drivers on the other hand had a paper coil cover with a black felt covered hole in the center.

Also the CTS brand drivers where stamped with ink on the rear of the magent or the mounting lip of the driver with a serise of seven numbers, of which the first three would be 137 followed by a space and then the next 4 digets.
If you get a small extention type mirror from a hardware store you can pass it into one of the ports while holding a small flash light in the other port and check out if the drivers are original or not.

You could play Bass thru the guitar type of driver for moderate volume home use or jam use, but you would stand a chance of over extending the cone travel if you where to pump more than may be 50 to 60 watts into them and if you have a 5 string bass I would for certian stay off of that low B string when pumpping 60 watts into the cabinet!

The cabinets impeadance is 5.3 ohms with any of the factory drivers that could have been had with that cabinet be they CTS, Jensen or either of the top sheilf Lansing brand drivers that where optional.
Any amp that can drive down to a 4 ohm load will work well to power the cabinet, but just note that any Solid State amp that is rated for its output wattage at 8 ohms will then output near bouble that wattage into that 5.3 ohm cabinet.
To play it safe I would either confirm that the drivers are original, or hook up a ohm meter across a cord plugged into the cabinet to confirm its impeadance.
Resistance wise on a ohm meter you will read between 4.5 ohms and 7.8 ohms if the cabinet is set up right.

Also if your EMC head is not working right like you say, and is Solid State, do not power the cabinet with it as many times when a SS amp blows depending on the circiut make up will place the full amp power supply voltage into the speakers and pop them also!
