Hey gang, glad to have found this place. You got to love the internet for us guitar people.
Anyway, a guy at work has a mint Kustom K100 with matching cab that he bought from the original owner in 1970 or so. Its in the cascade blue( I think thats what cha call it). It hasnt left his basement in 30 years and looks brand new. He says he would sell it to me.
Thing is, I never would have even thought about buying a Kustom. It sure brings back memories, but I really know nothing about them.
He let me bring it home to try out. I have a few questions.
1- Is a K100 really 100 watts? I have read some place that it is really around 60 watts?
2- the speaker cable looks like it is from the 50's! Do I trust that it is a speaker cable or should I go buy a new one to ensure I dont screw it up. He says its the one he used.
3- what is this amp worth? What would you be willing to pay?
4-Why should I buy it, besides the fact it looks cool as can be? I am not currently gigging. I play mainly clean blues tones and modern worship stuff, so I would consider using it with a Line 6 Pod to practice.
Thanks again for the info and for all the information I have already gathered on these pages.
Here are some opinions on your questions.
1- Yes, 60 watts RMS
2- If the cable works and is not likely to short out, then use it. If it really looks iffy, get a new one.
3- Condition and model will dictate pricing. What speaker cabinet does it have? Which model K100-1 or 2? What shape is the tuck and roll in?
4-You answered this one already, "it looks cool as can be".

thanks for the response. Its a K100-2 with a matching 2xsomething cab with 2 ports. Its pretty much mint. A couple little scuffs on a corner but other then that, mint.
I plugged it and and played it and it works perfect. Pretty nice cleans and great reverb. I would need some sort of pedal to give me some crunch at a low enough volume. Any suggestions on pedals that work well with this amp?
I think he wants $500 and I really have no idea if thats too much, or about right. Thoughts?
Thanks again,
Most pedals will work well with this amp. Some of the other guys here will probably have a few suggestions.
It sounds like the condition is good and if it is a Cascade, then it will be worth a little more.
I will assume that it has 2 twelve inch speakers, as this is a model K100-2 with reverb and vibrato. I will also assume that the cabinet is loaded with Jensen speakers and not something more valuable like Altecs or JBLs.
With this being a one owner amp, I'd guess that $500 is a fair price, especially if there is no tax or shipping to add.

thanks again everyone. It says Jensen on the cab. Everything works as it should. I think I am going to get it. Should be a fun amp and I would guess they arent going to lose any value. Still need to try it out with a few pedals.
I will lurk around to forum and hope to get to know a few of you. Who knows, maybe this will be the start of some Kustom collection at the Krogh house! We had a guy with a more recent tuck and roll tube amp that sounded real sweet. Maybe I need one of those as well!

Welcome to the site. You have a great amp, better buy it before someone else trys to get it. As far as pedals, I've been running a old Digitech RP1 with all of my kustom amps. The K100 series heads, two models were offered. The one you have with reverb and vibrato, and they made a two channel version. I prefer the two channel version. The normal channel seems to be a fatter fuller tone than the bright channel that is on your amp and the two channel K100 amp head. If the other amp your talking about is a newer tube version T&R, I'd personally stay away from it. It was made in China.
It's probably too late to warn you, but once you own one vintage Kustom T&R, you'll want to get another one, and another one, and it just keeps growing. Glad to have you onboard.

I have to totally agree with you pleat. I need another one like a hole in my head, but Tuesday I ran across a super deal on a K200B-1 Black head with matching 2-15-B cabinet 110 miles from here and can you guess where it sits now!!! Shes sweet clean and mean with my Jackson Bass. I had a dirty Bright switch on one channel and 2 blown transistors on the other. Well like a good parent I cleaned its nose and put in a couple new teeth and she bites now!!! You just got a love'em. Steve C
