I am restoring a Kasino 804. This amp has ( 10's and is rated at 400 watts. I'm looking for the aluminum plate that screws on at the bottom of the back. I had an 802 with the same plate. I have no idea what it's for, but I'd like to keep it as original as possible. Can anyone help?
Thanks

Hello and welcome.
I can not help you with that part, and I do not recall what the back of those models look like.
A guess would be that it was used as added mass of a heat sink on the amps output stage.
I would suggest that you good to a well stocked hardware store and check out there stock of strips of extruded Aluminum that come in 5 or 6 ft lenghts I think.
You may find a bar or L channel of the stuff that you can cut to lenght and then screw to the back section.

Hi,
Thanks for responding. Since asking the question, I've learned that it is a U-200 or 804. It is a large combo with ( 10's rated at 200 watts RMS. The back has 6 oblong ports that have aluminum inserts. There is a Kustom style handle in the center for tilting it back on its' huge aluminum casters. The plate at the bottom I referred to can't be a heat sink due to its' location. It seems to be an access port, but I'm not sure. Are you aware of any place that I might find one. I should have just sealed the hole before re-covering it, but it's too late now.
Also, it had one original speaker left in it with Kustom stamped on it, as well as 16ohm. I purchased 8 Eminence 8ohm speakers that Fender uses in the SWR WorkingPro series before finding out it had 16 ohm drivers in it. Do you think the amp will be able to handle the extra impedance? I hope I don't blow it up.
Thanks,
Rocksteady

I think the part you are asking about is the power module that would have been mounted in the back of the amp. The 802 model is a 200 watt peak or 100 watts RMS driving 8 10" 8 ohm speakers wired series and parallel. Giving the amp a 4 ohm total load.
The 804 was billed as a 400 watt peak power system. It used the same chassis as the 802 and also has the 200 watt peak power module in the back of the amp. There may be some twist lock AC power connectors on the back of the amp to connect power to the power module and maybe audio outs. It's been a long time since I've seen the back of any Kasino amp.
The 804 used two pairs of four 16 ohms speakers wired in parallel. Basically one control panel that fed two power amps. The amp that is part of the control panel drives four 16 ohms speakers wired in parallel for the 4 ohm load, the power module mounted on the lower back panel of the back of the amp drives the second pair of four 10" 16 ohm speakers wired in parallel which is a 4 ohm load.
Missing the power module, you are driving 8 speakers that are 8 ohm each. Series Parallel wiring the 8 ohm speakers, you can get a 4 ohm load and the amp will be running where it wants to be. Looking at the 1608 Kasino, it is the 804 with two added side wings of speakers and each wing contained a power module and was billed as a 800 watt monster.
The power module concept was used in the Kustom Slant face K250 series. Everytime you added a speaker cabinet, it had it's own power amp in the back. So adding more power was a easy as buying a second speaker cabinet.

Hello again,
I had an 802 with the same access panel. There was nothing to it. It was just a stamped aluminum piece that screwed on from the outside just like the handles and ports. All of the speakers were apparently being driven by the amp on top. The same holds true for this 804. All the drivers, though mismatched, were playing before I took it apart. It does have the screw-in power sources for the modules that you speak of. If I understand correctly, wiring the 8ohm speakers the same as it came from the factory will result in a 4ohm load and the amp will have no trouble at that impedance. Is that right?
Thanks again,

That's interesting that you've owned two of the 802 and both had the aluminum plate to fill the hole where the power module would be installed to make a 804. I just checked with a fellow kustom collector that has a 802 and his does not have the large hole or cover plate.
Did you purchase both of the 802's used? That might explain why your looking for a plate. Someone may have removed them and made a cover plate.
In any event, excluding the 151 and the 401, all Kasinos were the same basic power amp. 200 watts peak power or 100 watts rms into a 4 ohm loads. The top control panel with power amp wants to see a total of 4 ohms. The power modules runs the same power and impedance as the internal power amp found in the control panel/chassis, 100 watts into a 4 ohm load. Since you purchased what may be marked as a 804 that is missing the power module, you would want to run the 8 ten inch speakers that are 8 ohm each and wire them in series and parallel for a total of 4 ohms. Kasino had two chassis models a 22" and a 26" width. The 22" were designed for the cabinets with 10" speakers and the 26" for the 12" speakers.

Thanks again for all the help. The 802 did in fact have an aluminum plate that matched the handles in the same location, so I doubt anybody fabricated it. I'm just going to make a cover to match the cab.
After my last email, I realized that this cabinet was no longer 2 separate pairs of 4 speakers. Someone along the line spliced into the wire going to the amp from the top quad of drivers, and ran a second wire to the bottom quad of speakers so that the one input wire was driving all 8 speakers. I hope that makes sense. What does this do to the impedance? Is it now a 2 ohm load?

Bob, it's hard to tell what the impedance of the speakers are since I don't know how all the speakers are wired. You mentioned you replaced all the speakers with 8 ohm speakers. Wire two speakers in series = 16 ohms, wire two more speakers in series = 16 ohms. Wire the pair in parallel = 8 ohms. Repeat the process for the other four speakers to get 8 ohms, then wire both pairs in parallel you will have a grand total of 4 ohms.
If you have any photo's of the back of the amp and back panel, I'd like to see them. You can email me at djt@chartermi.net or send me your email and I'll send photo's of my buddy's 802
