Kustom Reputation (Popularity) [message #1555] Tue, 28 May 2002 15:50   Country_Gene Messages: 42 Registered: December 2001 Location: Northwestern New Jersey Member I participate in another [well-respected] Forum. From time to time, I've mentioned over there the great tone, sound, longevity, looks, and [of course] volume of my 30yr old K200B-1 2x15 bass rig, that I now use for guitar. I get quite a few response from people who know either first-hand or by reputation, the Kustom name and product line. I frequently get responses like, "Wow -you have one of those." "Those amps are cool", etc., etc., etc. Suprisingly, some of these comments are from younger players, who probably weren't even born yet when our rigs were new. This is a testimonial to the first-rate quality of our Vintage gear! Report message to a moderator

I'm grateful to the VG boys for putting up with us...they actually had wanted to do an article on our konvention but alas I passed that part of the deal onto the show sponsor for Nashville and didn't followup myself so I missed that one, but I'm sure we could get them involved again..this time directly. I digress...keep poking out there on the forums...its an important part of who we are...and our kustom legacy! Play Loud ET Report message to a moderator

Many people thought they were only looks....boy were they wrong! I came back to Kustom in 1999.....greatest thing I ever did musically. Then....I met the greatest bunch of people on the net....and I am still meeting them. I recently forced my "tube man" guitar player from my blues band to play a K100-2 with 2x12 Jensen cabinet at a sock hop.....he could not believe the tone. When we all met in Nashville and I heard ET, Roy, Pleat and Fox guiting super guitar tone from the Kustoms I was totally knocked out....I know what they could do on bass....had no idea the quality for guitar. Someone asked Bud Ross during our "Nashville Jam" how the old amps sounded. He smiled and said, "Real....they sound real". That is about the best vote you could get....from the man who started it all. If he was still pleased with them 30 years down the road....I knew I could live with it! Time goes on and things get better. Foxy and I played the sock hop as well...he was using a newly acquired Epi Les Paul gold top.....K100-2 with 2x12.....all I can say is sweeeeeeet! Yes, Kustoms are popular. Our numbers will likely always remain small compared to the tube boys....but that is fine with me.....I know what I have! BC Report message to a moderator

I play predominately clean tone and I love the clarity and dependability of this thing. I started with it thru an old Fender Bandmaster but have recently switched to the new Kustom TR212 cabinet. With either option, I'll be using a Kustom thru Jensens for the rest of my life. Senior Member My kids found a K200B1 head in the basement that I have had forever. They had never seen anything like it and before I knew it, we were overflowing with Kustom gear. The living room is full and the K100 never stops being used for both guitar and bass at church. I bought 2 3x15 PA cabs and 2 4x12 columns and was going to use them for the kids band and to keep my dreams alive. I loaded the 15's with JBL E140's and the columns with JBL E120's. A local group had a picnic at the village park and realized they didn't have enough horsepower to fill the park. In a rush we set up the 3x15's and a 600 watt amp and everyone couldn't believe the sound. Now my son and I have started a sound company featuring Kustom equipment. If it isn't the sound it's the look. People just have to touch. Conrad Report message to a moderator

Now mind you, I use a lot of black gear and through those years when the zodiacs where considered gawdy, my black gear survived a bit better, I do own and use some tube stuff, fender, marshall, Peavey classics...enjoy them all...but my best tones for a 4 hour variety gig come from my kustoms, and ya just can't beat the coolness factor. nobody every will. in the words of the great starship captain Kirk "Kool endures"..or was that beauty...where's a rerun when you need one. A local town has a program called "After Dinner Downtown" This amounts to local talent playing music on the main street of smalltown America on Saturday night. The street is blocked off and 5 or six bands have a block each! We played tonight and I had my Kustom 3x15 Charcoal siren cabs and my Blue 2x12 3x8 cabs out front on PA duty. With a couple of more Kustoms in the backline things were looking nice! Many people stopped and listened and looked at the tuck and roll......some had to touch it to see if it was really soft and stick their hands in the ports! Some young guys from a band on the next block were envious of the look....and complimentary of the sounds! However, I had two guys to mention that they knew who was playing on this block when they saw the Kustoms.....now that is recognition! Even one of our guitar players who is a Fender diehard (and there is nothing wrong with that) said there is not a cooler looking setup on the whole street......but I already knew that!
