Hi All,
Just picked up a cascade K25C-2 combo #52073 which I think puts
it in the first part of '70. Great shape, cool color it doesn't
have the orginal speaker in it, has a Celestion G12L-35 in it.
I'm looking for suggestions on what to put in it and what were the orginal speakers in it. How many ohms should I be looking at?
Any other info on the 25's would be greatly appreciated . I'm calling her Little Sister and she joins her big brother Frank
(silver '65). Me thinks I feel an addiction starting here! That's a good thing
Thank you,
Dan
p.s. just snagged a footswitch too.....

It should be 8 ohm and I may be wrong (Pleat would know for sure) I think it should be a Jensen C12N or there is an alnico magnet (horse shoe) magnet speaker. I have a K-25 with a goofy aftermarket speaker and my K-50 has a C12N that needs reconed. I have two additional Jensens that need to be reconed too. I may be interested in a swap for a Jenen C12N that needs reconed towards the eminence that you have.

So your from the U P. Great to hear from yous guys once in a while. Ya ain't from the Escanaba area are ya? Well to answer some questions I have to say it looks for a 8 0hm load and I believe it would have a standard CTS originaly. I heard of them having a Jensen also so that may have been an upgrade you could have special ordered. I have the K50-2 and it had a CTS in it. I replaced it with a 8 ohm G 100 Celestion and that baby is very impressive. Enjoy

Hello and welcome to the place!
The original driver was 8 ohms and since its a early 70s unit it could have come with a Jensen model C12N, or a KEI labled (Eminence made)driver with a aluminum voice coil cover.
The latter driver some folks say are a tad too brite on top with certain pickups/guiatrs.

My new favorite driver even though I have had it for 5 years is the Eminence Red Fang model.

I have 32 amps and over the course of these past 5 years I have checked it out in all of my amps that have a 12" driver and it sounds killer in all of them, so much so that when I buddy of mine heard it he wanted to try in in one of his two BF Deluxe reverbs that he uses every weekend at gigs.
Now its been in his amp for 8 months and I need to find a way to get it back!

When the first came out they went for 125 bucks, but now due to the price of 2 out of the 3 metals that make up its magnet structure its cost is in the 280 dollar range!

A close sounding model I have found in the Eminence Red coat line is the private jack model, and its price is about 90 bucks and can most time be found used on ebay for a bunch less.

0f course you cant go wrong with a new Jensen C12N model for vintage tones, but I have found that they need to be broken in and or played on about 20 hours to get them to work in a bit and sound like they should in regards to my vintage ones that I have in one of my 2-12 K100 cabs.

I stand corrected. Thanks stevem, that was a KEI with the alluminum dust cap I removed from the K50-2 and your right about the brightness of that speaker. That was why I changed it out. It will cut through any mix like a knife but is so bright it will make your ears tickle. Someone suggested the copper heads a while back and I got the chance to get a pair of 10's to handle that Experimental Fankenstein project that I installed the 100 watt module as its output section. Those were the perfect match for the laydown Frank cabinet I built and the sound I can only say was incredible. Unbelievably warm yet crisp and full bodied at minimal volume. Although I've not heard a 12" version.

It should be noted that the aluminum voice coil cover on the KEI drivers can be removed quite easy, and replacement paper ones from Weber can be glued on in place which will bring the spiky top end back in line.
Those extended highs work good for keyboards, but not for a good bunch of guitars unless you are up pretty load in volume and the driver is moving a good amount of air/bass.
