I just found this place and am hoping someone can give me some information. I just acquired a Kustom amp for free just for taking it away. It plays beautifully on all channels, the pots are in good shape, (meaning no scratching or popping sounds). Same for the switches.
What doesn't work are any of the effects, reverb, tremolo and so on. I'm assuming that usually there is a common place to start looking for problems in this area. So, any help I can get in finding a starting place would be appreciated.
Since the price was right, I haven't got a problem looking into getting it fixed. Just would like to know about what I'm looking at for trouble and cost.
It's really hard to find any useful info on these things.

Well there should be some kind of model number. If it the K200A with effects, it requires a footswitch to turn on the effects. Lower right side back of amp there will be a 4 pin footswitch. You can short all the pins to ground and then you will have to control the effects from the front panel. The K200A series amps, all effects worked on the left channel only. Other than that being a simple fix, we would need to know exactly which model you have.

I just re read your post, now I see you have the K200A-4 so my info will be correct that the footswitch is need to remote control the effects or short the pins to ground.

Thanks, it never occurred to me that it wouldn't work without the foot switch. Didn't get one with the amp. Suppose there's no place on earth to get one.

One A4F Switchcraft XLR plug, 5 wire and four SPST switches, and you can make one. If you can find a old peavey 4 button footswitch, change out the plug and your set to go.

No problem finding the XLR plug and switches. Can you point me to a source for the cable. Not exactly sure what kind to get.
And Stevem, Antique Electronics looks like it could be a gold mine for some stuff. Thanks. I'll have to look it over more when I have more time.

Thats why I suggested buying a 4 button peavey footswitch on CL or ebay. Then all you have to do is cut off the plug and install the 4pin XLR plug. In the mean time, you can short all the pins to ground to activate the effects. Might be a good idea to make sure all the effects work before you hunt down a footswitch.

Years ago, for multi pin foot switches, I used to buy extension cables for Nintendo remotes, which were 9 wire cables. Now I look for stranded wire, category 5 cable, which will come in even number pairs like 4 or 6 or 8.
I agree with Pleat about checking the FX first by grounding each of the pins of the jack. If you find that there are problems that will require major repairs, you may want to have the switch made at the same time to save some time and cost.
Good ideas guys. I don't know anything about these amps having never owned one before, so I'm really glad I came across this forum. So far this is the only place I've been able to get any info, technical or otherwise. There just doesn't seem to be much out there.
Well, I found out that all the effects work! (YEA)
I guess I'll go ahead and see if I can make a footswitch now. I looked around and the only thing I've been able to find that would be suitable was a used one on E-Bay that must have been made of solid gold.
$90.00 for an old used footswitch? Ain't happenin'
Any way, I wanted to thank everyone for their help so far. I'm sure I'll be back to pick some brains again before I'm done.
