I finally found an almost perfect K-100 piggy-back. I've read your forum till blind and need some help:

Head has sn 41915 which I think is "Mar 70"; Cab has sn S54719 which I added 45000 and looked like a "Mar 73" model. Cab also has silver thread in cloth and ports are black inside (w/ 2x12 CTS/KEI) and aluminum model plate ("2x12 B") but a blank diamond-shaped input-plate.

Am I correct I have a K150 2x12 BASS cab and a K100 1 GUITAR head?

Thanks for any help.

ps: I thought head was down on pwr, was extremely bright and made no bass. Now, I'm thinking my bass doesn't prefer the "resonant treble circuit"??? I need a K100 'C' for bass, right?

Sorry for the length.

Kustom offered two K100 heads. The K100-1 and the K100-2.
The K100-2 head is a bright single channel amp with reverb and vibrato. The K100-1 head has both a bright and a normal channel, and for a fuller tone, I'd use the normal channel for a better bass response.
Both heads use the same power amp section and is rated at 60 watts RMS into a 8 ohm speaker cabinet.
You are correct that the cabinet is much newer than the older head.
The 212B cab is for bass, but after almost 40 years, it's hard to say what the cab might contain for speakers.
The cab originally contained two 8 ohm speakers wired in parallel for a 4 ohm load. So you may have a mismatch load going to the head.
Kustoms will run safely on a larger impedence cab, but going below the 8 ohm of the head may cause problems or damage the amp.

The K100C series amps were the self contained (head and speakers in one cabinet).

Thx much, Pleat. Thank goodness I have the right head. I'll ck DC on the cab to determine impedance of the KEI bass 12's.

Thanks again,

During the K150 era of amps KEI guitar speakers had a aluminum voice coil cover with a black round vent hole in the covers center, they also had several ribs on the cone.
The bass drivers did not have the aluminum dome voice coil covers.
If you have the first mentioned drivers they will be brite for bass and they do not go down to the low frequency needed to cover bass well, and forget about playing the low B string on a 5 string bass thru the real 12" bass drivers, no less the guitar drivers!

Fairly certain these were the bass 12's. Peaking through the grill cloth, the suspensions were bass-beefy and, of course, no aluminum caps (big square CTS magnets with KEI stickers). I really need to ck tuning on this orig cab; it doesn't like a lot of strong fundamentals. I've since dialed it in and am making some nice warm bass with a modicum of depth. All in all, very happy. The cab must have been sitting a long time; it sounds better each time I play it. Thx for the interest.

My first good bass amp was the K100 with 2-12"s. Even back then in 71 in Jr high playing school dances I found that the amps 50 watts of clean power to be a limit!
I moved onto a K200 with 3 15"s within 2 years and then onto a Traynor 2-15 cab that I ported and loaded with EVMs that blew the 3-15s away!
This also keep the 3-15 cab in sweet shape at home.
Those CTS bass drivers do not go down strong passed about 50 hz it seams, so a bass E string is a work out for them. Much latter on time wise I found that the K100 single 15 cab is a much better pick for bass use.
It may be time to recone those drivers if they are flapping out due to the cone surround and spider being done after all this time!

Thx goodness the 12's are actually more than functional. -agreed on the low E. AND, agreed on the 1x15; it's what I've been looking for all these yr's until I found this beauty.

As it so happens, I have multiple early 80's era EVM 15L-II drivers reconed in the EV facility in Morrilton, AR. -my favorite "all purpose" driver. I'm not gonna tip my hand at this point but will update if/when possible.

ps: The 150 cab is getting it's grill cloth changed to match the K100 scheme (plain black and NO IRREVERSABLE MOD'S!!!) Gotta make the dream happen!
