Hi, everybody. Still loving my K100/150 amp. It's noticeably down on pwr and my amp tech (for 40+yr) doesn't "do" solid state.

Does anyone know of a great tech in the Little Rock, AR area? -or, is the "best guy" a UPS arrangement?

Thx for any help,

David

Did one or more of your speakers give out, as when a SS amp drops power it's usually distorting also, is that the case?

Nope. Both 12's are working. It also did it with a 1x15 EV cab. The tech did find the 2 large cap's to be fairly off spec but couldn't find the huge hum (which I didn't have here).

Good suggestion but still needing the/a "best guy" at fixing my cool amp.

Thx again

I'm not sure exactly which amp you have? You said K100/150. There were different K100 models as well as the K150. Is there a model number on the back of the amp, or could you describe what you have.

Where are you located? If you send the head to Michigan, we have a great tech here that a Pleat and me both use that knows these things really well and is very reasonable.

David, depending where you live you could send the amp chassis to me and I can fix it for you ,I live in N.Y.

Are both channels in your amp acting the same with the low power issue and Hum?

Someone only 40 or so years old who can not deal with The transistors, no less the iC chips that some of these amps came with is just calling him or herself a tech and has no formal training in electronics I would have to say!
I guess the person only works on tube amps, but many many tube amps have have SS sections in them, and many of those sections run on smaller versions of power supply's like your Kustom has in it!
I wonder what your tech does in a tube amp when faced with a issue in the reverb section for example, many of which are Solid state in tube amps and or have SS regulator and DC voltage section for the tube filaments themselves.

The head has sn 41915 which I think is "Mar 70". The cab is a 150, hence the K100/150 platypus designation. Sorry to toss around terms like "tech"..no schooling but he's been fixing my Fender amps since we were kids..reverb also. And, yes, all inputs/channels are down.

It sounds like we've got some great Kustom amp tech's. I'll be in touch.

What a relief and what a great, supportive group.

Thx again,

David

ps: I'm near Little Rock, AR; Bumfuck, Egypt wouldn't be too far to fix this lovely head.
