Ancient alchemists would have been proud to turn silver into gold, but now I want to turn it back. Has anyone ever successfully bleached or otherwise returned silver sparkle naughahyde back from gold?
Talked to a fabric company in Ca. about the same thing. Sorry, its a non reversible thing. UV rays oxidize the chemical make up of the material and cause it to turn colors. A good car wax will remove some of the oxidation but the color is what it is. Two of my charcoal cabinets are sea weed green now......yuck! Silver seems to age the worse.......turns yellow or gold in color.

Oh well, at least it's a beautiful gold color (except for under the tan lines). Thanks IB for responding and also for contacting someone who actually knows. Keith.

I have a charcoal k250 that that was going pretty well over to gold all on it own just fuel to age and before last summer I sat it on a cabinet near a window that gets a fair amount of Sun light, now that side of the amp has brown burn marks due to the UV like mad and not only looks burnt up, but FEELs it! I was shocked !
Guess we all know now there was another reason for having covers for this equipment besides protecting it from tears........protecting its color as well. I have a couple of heads in charcoal that still look the original color and they are kept covered all the time they are not being used. Unfortunately I also have a 400 head that was silver at one time and now it is cat pee yellow........looked so terrible and had lots of tears so I took the T&R off and painted the cabinet gloss black for now until I can get it recovered. Guess Kustom should have included a bottle of sunscreen with every purchase.

I have done small areas that were just starting to turn, but there is no way you would ever get an entire amp that has turned badly back. I found that it wasn't the silver that turned on mine, it was the clear that started to turn, I used Zylene and a rag and got it back, but Zylene will melt your naugahyde and ruin it unless you know what you are doing. It took 99% of the spot out of mine.
The clear on the naugahyde I think works the same as the clear coat on car paint...protects the finish and slows the oxidation process down. Since the stuff you used probably removed some of the clear protective finish on the naugahyde, I hope the oxidation process hasn't been speeded up now on that spot. Your right about not using on an entire piece of equipment, would probably do more damage than good. According to my girlfriend, who is an interior designer, she said that the clear coating also sealed in the smell of the naugahyde which she says has a very strong odor........the new naugahyde's are made differently now and don't have the odor. Black will even turn with time to a dusty grey but can be brought back to looking like new with vinyl spray paint. I did my two 2-15 cabinets and they look like brand new now.

Black has no clear on it as it doesn't need it to protect the metal flake that is why the colors have clear on them. We have seen end runs of color Naugahyde that didn't have the clear on it and it is rough and the clear is pretty thick. I am kind of a jack of all trades and can fix anything. I did the silver amp a couple of years ago and it still looks great and was just a slight beginning of a fade, nothing serious, just enough to bother me.
LMAO....................sorry to have burst your bubble. I always get a chuckle when I see a posting that someone has a "yellow" T&R and how "rare" a find it is. Well, just keep telling yourself that......those of us know better.

LOL! yes, I always like going into places and it says RARE YELLOW or RARE GOLD and I point out that it is a yellowed out Silver and then tell them how I know and tell them it isn't RARE at all as most of them turned that color or are in some various transition of silver and gold. Then I make sure that I let all of the Kustom guys in the area know where it is at and it is a golded or yellowed out silver and not to bother with it.

I have one blue 2x15 cab and two blue heads. One head matches the cab but the other one is a little darker. I am not confusing it with the cascade as I have a little cascade PA too. I haven't tried cleaning the darker one yet. We'll see.

I have 2 blue K100 shells that are slightly different in color. The first has 8 small holes in the top that must have come from something sitting on top with screws protruding into the tuck and roll. I bought another head but the blue is darker. I wonder if the Naugahyde was changed sometime in the production run.
