Does anyone know if the Jack plates on the Kustom Cabs were always stamped with Jensen or CTS? I have an old Kustom "by Ross" 2x15 Cab
that has a blank plate. it is old and blackish in color.

One of my early by Ross cabs is that way also, and is dead stock!
One way to tell if you have the CTS Bass drivers is to look thru the grill cloth at the center voice coil cover of the speaker, if it has a small flat round darker section on the flat top / nose of the cover than its the Bass driver and not the guitar Jensen made driver.

Thanks for the reply. I had assumed that it was an old aftermarket jack and plate. the speakers are missing but outside that the old cab is in pristine condition. It's charcoal sparkle. Also that's good info to know on how to identify drivers! Thanks again, K.M.

As we all have posted on here many times, never assume the cabinet tag is actually what the speakers are inside. After 40 years who knows what's inside them. Open it up and check.....just for future reference. I also have several cabinets with the exact blank plate you mentioned. Original speakers could have been Altec or even JBL. Some of my cabinets also have a separate tag listing the model number and a serial number as well.

Inconsistencies do abound in this area. I own and have owned cabs that were labeled correctly, incorrectly and not at all and all were totally original. Nothing like cracking one open to see what's in it!

All the early Ross cabinets have a blank jack plate. The A's have a black metal one with crinkle finish and the Frankies are plexiglas. The Frankies have a letter suffix on the model number that indicates which speakers the head was matched with originally. J for Jensen, C for CTS, J for JBL, etc.
