This is the only board I'm a member of so I thought I'd ask here before joining another board. I own a 60's hofner violin guitar and need to replace one of the tuners. Does anybody happen to know if the guitars and basses used the exact same tuners? I can only find treble side replacements for the basses.

Hello, nice Hofner. Yes, from what I can see and remember those are the same tuners as on the late 60s 5001 basses. I can't see the post from here but the gear box and the button look the same. Also, if memory serves, I think you can take those apart and reassemble them for the other side witch means if you get a replacement you could keep every thing intact except the new button and worm gear. By the way, do you still have the old button? Can it not be epoxied back on? Good Luck, Keith

I have a friend who has a 1963 Hofner violin bass he is thinking of selling. I took some photos for him and the tuners on his bass looks identical to your guitar.
I'd contact Hofner direct about the tuner or you might want to contact www.Stewmac.com or call their service dept. and see if they have a tuner button.
