In April of 1999 I joined the internet world and immediately started searching for KUSTOM amps. Like most 40+ guys I was looking for the "Good Old Days". In late 71 I bought my first Kustom amp. A cascade 200 with 2x15 cabinet. I can still remember the look and smell of that amp and the glow of the purple jewell!
During the last four years I have owned some 30 odd Kustoms ...and usually keep 20-25 close by....but I never found a cascade 2x15 when I had the funds. Well......Yesterday the brown truck pulled in the driveway with a pair of boxes from non other than the "Kustom Kat" himself. Yeah, it was the ever elusive cascade......Life is good.
It has been a long time coming.....but it will be on stage Sat night! BC
My time on this planet is now complete and I can confess to you my closest compatriots that I am in fact not of this world, but sent here on a mission from the high counsel of Zodiac..no not a planet...rather a cluster of systems who have agreed to live in harmony...we search the night sky with our sonic maximizers waiting for the rare instance when a civilization not only attains the technology, but has the tasteful wisdom to us it to build a mechanism that can create the musical tones of the gods themselves...a few decades back our sensors noted the creation of your kustom amplifiers...we immediately contacted a young Bud Ross to congratulate him on his work and instructed him to protect his creation by applying our special fabric material which as you may have noticed has both a scattered metalic reflective flaking quality, coupled with the geometric diffusion qualities of pleating...the protection was important as you were already under close watch on this planet by folks that tend to seek out other radio signals such as fission exlposions...it was important that the kustoms be kept secret from these ..others...yes...the fabric does inhibit our ability to monitor your efforts as well...but we did install the special jewel lighting in each unit.we call them pilot lights...so that we could track your progress. You can imagine our disapointment after having sent several brigades to fend off the "others" from approaching your world only to find that your civilization had passed the kustoms into lost memories and their beautiful tones were lost amidst the noise produced by less technologically advanced vacuum tube systems...we thought at first that you had been attacked and had lost much of your civilization but returned to find your world in a chaos of your own choosing...the purple jewels no longer shining their pureness...I alone was assigned to stay behind and monitor..looking for the smallest glint of hope that there was someone still among you that might be resurrected..and in that..the hope of your world rested...for years I scoured old music stores and your "pawn shops" (an interesting concept)mourning the silence of dust covered battle worn kustoms buried among other junk like some forgotten Centoid...finally out of the blind darkness that is the internet, a single voice spoke to me asking about his long forgotten cascade kustom...his most precious soul driving his brain cells to remember what was once lost... I quickly grabbed onto him, as if the effort was to nurture the entire race back to life through this one hapless bass player. the seed grew quickly and he spread the godspell throughout the land....then one night I received a call from Zodiac...they could hear!!! Their sensors were seeing the piercing pure light of purple fire streaming through the fabric of sonic space...thunder was once again rolling through the air and hope hung by a low E string!
It is to you, this small but fine group of pioneers..brave souls who have determined ...no dared, to be different...to be the best...to sound the truest of tone throughout your world...to you I return the fate of you planet...of all humanity...your faithful pursuit of white, red, blue, gold, charcoal, and perhaps most precious of all...cascade has saved your world...and lest ye forget...the sparkling stars in the sky are nothing without the blackness of space to cast them in...never underestimate the power of a black kustom! Congratulations BC Play Loud so that all may hear....ET

A cherry cascade is indeed deserving of such eloquence.
I too remember the first Kustom, a cascade 100, that sparkled and shimmered like a big piece of candy. The purple jewel, beckoning those who would gaze upon it to swim in it's blue depths. An amp so beautiful, that the music that came forth from the speakers was enhanced with a visual harmony as well.
Remembered with the fondness one would save for a first love.
Major congrats BC on such a find. :D

Thanks Guys! After four years and 30+ Kustom purchases...I still get excited. (So does ET) Watch out Axeman....its a tuck and roll jungle around here!! As a side note, many years ago when I played my original Cascade Foxy was playing guitar in the same band....he has recently taken on Hammond organ duty with the present band...so more memories to flood back. I will play proud....and loud tonight.....but just wait until I get the JBLs from JC! Roy....there will be a delivery to Mattoon in a few days as soon as we get the details worked out! Tonight it is Cascade City......Hey Conrad....can you drive the cascade sirens down to southern Illinois tonight.....I would like to borrow them for the PA! BC!
man! what was that?! sometimes it just comes over me...usually there's a twitching in my face to warm me inadvance and i can get to my medicine cabinet...well..its not really a cabinet...its actually a trailer...a big white trailer full of kustoms.. I just go out to the driveway, unlock the door and open it up and smell the 35 years of smoke filled bars, armor all coatings, and some special smell that is kustom alone..maybe its old transistors cooked from hours and hours of faithful play time...so glad you found your cascade Brad..I know you'll do it proud on stage....back once again among the human population...ya'll Play Loud! ET.....I am truly overwhelmed by your first post. It means so much to be able to share the excitement with such special people! I just loaded the cascade in the car...just like I did so long ago when I would put the original Kustom in the back seat of my 65 Mustang (which I STILL have even though it needs total restoration) In 45 min I will be on the road to the gig across the river in IL. My old Kustom had Jensens.....this one has the correct CTS.....soon they will be the JBLs I thought about buying in 74 but never did. Some things EVENTUALLY get done after all. Now......all I have to do is find a second cascade cabinet! It's NEVER over! BC

Here is the latest. I took the cascade to the gig tonight.....I had not turned it on so I had no idea how it would sound. It is very quiet....and has great tone.....and it can PLAY LOUD too! It made my Mexican Jazz sound like a real bass! This is one happy Kustom guy! Thanks for all the support!! BC

Northern Illinois would be fine, Southern Illinois is a bit far for one night. That is a whole different country. I actually hire out for sound reinforcement. For you guys, FREE!!!!!!! I would relish the trip. Keep me in mind.

Yes, ET, glad to be feeling like posting. For an update to all-- had knee replacement on Dec 4th, followed by tons of painful therapy and a painful maniuplation. I'm still going to therpay three times a week and trying to get full range of motion back in this knee. The only thing keeping me sane at the moment is this board and all you crazzies!!! :-)
Would you be willing to sell the head or the whole thing. I have a two 2x15 cascade kustom cabs. There mother has been gone for for 32 years. What a reunion it would be.
